Leigh, United Kingdom Family Welfare Full time

Family Welfare is a reputable, vibrant and expanding charity established in the Wigan & Leigh area for over 60 years. The organisation offers a high standard of service and support to vulnerable people throughout the borough. Our service to individuals and families includes respecting the individual or family life as we encounter it in all its variety and imperfection; strengthening communities; working in partnership when needed; using local resources effectively; learning from experience and remaining independent in the face of changing times. We believe that by working together and planning ahead we can achieve better and more accessible services to make the borough a better place for all.

The Mental Capacity Act 2005 is a law about making decisions and what to do when people cannot make some decisions for themselves. Individuals might be able to make some decisions but not be able to make other decisions. When a person cannot make a decision, this is called lacking capacity. Sometimes a person lacking capacity may want to do something that is not in their best interest, and they may need preventing from doing this. This is called a Deprivation of Liberty. A Person’s Representative is there to support the relevant person during their time in hospital or care home while they are deprived of their liberty. We require RPRs to visit the person regularly to make sure their interests are being upheld and safeguarded.
