**About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade**
The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.
The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.
**About the Australian Consular and Passport Offices, London**
The Consular Office at the Australian High Commission, London is a busy public-facing environment, providing consular and notarial services to Australian citizens in the United Kingdom. These are carried out in accordance with the Consular Operations Handbook and under the direction of Consular Manager.
**About the Position**
**The key responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:
- Provide guidance to Australian citizens seeking advice and assistance in accordance with consular policy and the Consular Service Charter.
- Liaise with relevant authorities in relation to consular matters.
- Escalate consular case work and complex issues.
- Provide administrative support, as required.
**Qualifications/Experience**
- Ability to quickly attain a sound working knowledge of the guidelines, policies and legislation governing the provision of consular services.
- Strong interpersonal skills for building productive working relationships with clients, internal/external stakeholders in a sympathetic, respectful and persuasive manner.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills to handle all facets of client interaction, including complex and sensitive matters.
