Dundee, United Kingdom The Speech Language Communication Company (SLCo) Full time

**The charity is seeking a FAMILY COACH**

SLCo is extending its services for young people and families in the Dundee area.
- We're looking for a dynamic Family Coach, with a range of skills and abilities, suited to develop networks of support for parents and carers of children and young people who experience barriers due to speech, language, and communication (SLC) difficulties._

This position would suit someone with significant experience of working with children and families in an education or community role. You will have experience of creating comfortable spaces, building positive relationships, and using a holistic approach.

SLCo’s Family Coach service provides community-based support for parents and carers and siblings who benefit from tailored guidance and support.

Our services are relationship based and designed _'by families for families’._ We offer wraparound support, particularly where families encounter difficulties in accessing statutory service provision. For example, many children do not meet the threshold for clinical SLT intervention yet experience persistent challenges and barriers due to poor language and social communication skills.

We work with a range of colleagues in key community services, building connections with Education and Health networks.

You would be a confident and dynamic self-starter, comfortable with your skills and experience of working with children and families, familiar with local systems and support.

You will be an effective communicator at all levels, comfortable liaising with families and professionals as well as skilled in communication and modelling language to children and young people.

You will help to create a cohesive framework of 1:1 coaching, emotional support, and group session work for local families, helping to build confidence and skills whilst coaching families to create effective communication and learning environments at home.

It is essential that applicants understand additional support needs in children and appreciation of person-centred and asset-based approaches.
- **The post requires a range of skills and abilities, and we would be interested in speaking to anyone who has a relevant blend of skills and experience.**_

**Responsibilities**:

- Develop a cohesive framework for 1:1 coaching, emotional support, and group sessions to empower families and enhance communication and learning environments at home.
- Deliver a programme of one-to-one coaching to boost language development and social communication skills in early years and beyond.
- Collaborate with team colleagues and the Third Sector community to provide community-based support for parents, carers, and siblings who need support with SLC challenges.

**Qualifications/Experience/Attributes**:

- Health, education, community education, or similar, to degree level preferred but not essential.
- Demonstrable experience in children/youth/family work.
- Experience of working with children who struggle with SLC.
- Experience of supporting CYP who are neurodiverse.
- Familiarity with international programmes like Hanen for language and social communication skills.
- Experience of health behaviour change approaches.
- Attention to detail, organisational skills, IT, and social media experience.
- Ability to work flexibly as the post will require out of hours and potentially evening and weekend work.
- Experience in managing family, children, and young people activity and learning-based programmes.
- Competent and effective in supporting a small staff team, volunteers, and children and young people through effective leadership.
- Understand the role of the Third Sector within community planning.
- Commitment to the work of a small charity team and its mission and aims.
- **Subject to PVG registration**_
