**Job Purpose**
To manage the delivery of high quality social change / clinical legal education in the School of Law for undergraduate and postgraduate students; to ensure the effective set up and day-to-day management of selected clinics and projects in the GO Justice Centre; to supervise students working on legal casework; to enhance the student experience by working collaboratively with academic and professional services staff to embed wide ranging experiential learning opportunities in all degree programmes.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. To take initiative and manage the strategic development of social change legal education in the School of Law together with academic colleagues and partner organisations.
2. Identify, develop and oversee new opportunities to further enhance the student experience, including scoping new legal clinics, outreach and pro bono projects together with academic colleagues.
3. Supervise students on pro bono projects and legal casework in one or more of the following areas: welfare benefits; housing; social care / community care; equality and human rights.
4. Engage with stakeholders and sustain collaborative networks in legal practice (in Scotland, the UK and internationally, as appropriate) and with relevant civil society organisations (law centres, frontline charities, NGOs).
5. Lead the efficient management of legal casework and projects with appropriate data protection, ethical and legal compliance, ensuring that clients are well supported and receive high quality legal advice
6. Manage relevant members of staff and students in the Go Justice Centre as projects and clinics develop.
7. Deliver teaching / training on existing undergraduate (Scots Law and / or Common Law) and postgraduate courses on topics relevant to access to justice, social justice and legal skills.
8. To support the regular evaluation and review of clinical legal education activity in accordance with the requirements of the School, the University, and any relevant external accreditation.
9. Oversee student training in legal skills relevant to projects and clinics (e.g. client communication, legal research and drafting, client interviewing and advising, advocacy).
10. Support the assessment of students on experiential undergraduate and postgraduate modules, including feedback on reflective portfolios.
11. Produce high quality legal education scholarship and knowledge exchange which aligns with the strategic priorities of the School of Law.

**Knowledge & Qualifications**

**Essential**
A1: An undergraduate degree in English or Scots Law or equivalent.
A2: A professional qualification for the practice of law in Scotland, England and Wales or any other common law jurisdiction.
A3: Knowledge and understanding of the access to justice landscape in Scotland.

**Desirable**
B1: Fellowship or Senior Fellowship of Advance HE (formerly the Higher Education Academy) or Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education.
B2: Current practising certificate in Scotland and / or England and Wales and 5 years PQE.

**Skills**

**Essential**:

C1: Proven, excellent organisational skills including the ability to work to proactively and independently to tight deadlines.
C2: A proven ability to successfully manage teams of lawyers and / or caseworkers.
C3: A demonstrable commitment to access to justice.
C4: An ability to establish excellent working relationships with partner organisations (e.g. charities, referral agencies or other frontline service providers) and to manage the successful delivery of casework and projects.
C5: An ability to ensure casework and projects meet relevant regulatory requirements, including knowledge and understanding of equality and diversity, safeguarding and GDPR processes.
C6: Evidence of innovative approaches to student and / or trainee supervision and the ability to use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students.
C7: Effective communication skills orally and in writing.

**Desirable**:

C8: Demonstrable track record of, or potential and willingness to produce, high quality legal education scholarship.

**Experience**

**Essential**:

E1: Substantical experience of delivering legal advice in one or more of the following areas: equality and human rights; social welfare law (e.g. housing, welfare benefits, immigration, community care and education).
E2: Experience teaching and / or delivering professional legal training.
E3: Experience of setting up and managing legal advice casework and projects.

**Desirable**:

F4: Experience of advocacy in courts and / or tribunals.
F5: Experience of the strategic legal action (e.g. strategic litigation).

**Terms and Conditions**
Salary will be Grade 7/8, £38,474 - £43,155/£47,047 - £54,421 per annum
