**Job Purpose**
To contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by contributing to teaching, assessment and administration processes associated with undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and to undertake scholarship to enhance learning and teaching in the School of Social and Political Sciences. The teaching may cover courses in introductory qualitative or quantitative methods and more specialised options.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Deliver teaching and assessment for tutorials on the postgraduate research methods courses across the School of Social and Political Sciences, depending on knowledge and experience these could be the school-wide courses for PGT and PGR students on: “Qualitative Methods” and “Research Design”.
2. Convene an undergraduate “Quantitative Methods”-course for the Glasgow Q-Step centre or a postgraduate “Applied Qualitative Methods”-course, involving timely communication of assessments, learning outcomes, and feedback.
-5. Postgraduate thesis supervision.

**Knowledge and Qualifications**

**Essential**-A2.Knowledge of advanced qualitative methods, e.g. for social media or secondary data analysis, using participatory or action research AND/OR advanced quantitative methods, e.g. social network analysis, text analysis, causal inference, Machine Learning, etc.

**Desirable**
B1.A recognised teaching qualification.
B2.Knowledge of teaching methods and techniques for social science research methods.
B3.A PhD focussed contributing to research on social science research methods.

**Skills**
** Essential**
C1.Ability to communicate material of a specialist or technical nature in quantitative AND/OR qualitative social science.
C2.Proven ability to develop and plan lectures and seminars.
C3.Ability to communicate social science concept, for example “epistemology” or “selection bias”, to a diverse group of learners (e.g., from a variety of programmes, with differing levels of prior knowledge, and with degrees from different higher education systems.

**Desirable**
D2.Ability to use R for data management, analysis, and communication; evidenced through research output and/or teaching and/or contributions to software packages.
D3.Ability to use other software for quantitative methods (Python/Stata/Mplus/Julia etc.).
D4.Ability to collaborate with colleagues in other disciplines and/or institutions in developing research methods teaching.
D5.Ability to use innovative teaching styles (e.g., blended learning) and learning technologies (e.g., learning diaries/padlets).

**Experience**

**Essential**
E1.Proven experience teaching quantitative AND/OR qualitative methods (e.g. a first course in statistics for social scientists).
E2.Proven experience using quantitative AND/OR methods for research.
E3.Experience teaching seminar-style (max. 30 students) classes and lectures.
E4.Proven experience supervising postgraduate students.
E5.Experience convening university courses (“classes”).

**Desirable**
F1.Experience teaching statistical programming (e.g., using R/Python/Stata).
F2.Experience using the VLE Moodle.
F3.Experience teaching and/or convening large research methods classes (+200 students).
F4.Experience teaching as part of a team.

**Terms and Conditions**
Salary will be Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum.
This post is full time and fixed term for two years.
