**ABOUT US**
- Transforming Lives Through Excellent Education_
London Met is an extraordinary institution. Equity and social inclusion have
always been our driving principles, and it's what makes the University so
unique. Our organisation is distinctive, both in its eclectic and diverse
community of students and staff, and also for its historical role in serving
some of London's most deprived boroughs. Everything we do is
underpinned by our philosophy that an individual should have the
opportunity to transform their life through the power of education.
Equipping our students with the tools for their future is at the heart of our
academic offering. We pride ourselves on providing our students with
access to a wealth of opportunities and professions. Our graduates benefit
personally, but also contribute their unique perspectives to society, culture,
public service and the economy in all areas of London, the UK and around
the world.
The Department of Student Services constitutes an integral part of the
wider student experience and comprises of the following teams:
Counselling Service; Disabilities & Dyslexia Service (DDS); and Student
Money and Accommodation Advice (SMAA). These services work closely
together to provide the best possible services to our students and to
meet the strategic aims of the University. The Department aims to help
students with such issues as finding and managing accommodation;
finances; debt; welfare benefits and money management; advice and
guidance on immigration issues; personal or emotional difficulties;
personal development; maximising potential; mental health issues;
disability and specific learning difficulties.
**ABOUT THE POST**
The Counselling Service is based at two sites: Holloway Road and
Calcutta House. A range of services is offered, including one-to-one
counselling (strictly time-limited), group work for students, self-help
provision, and consultancy and training to staff.
We are seeking a Counsellor to join the team. Working with the
Counselling Service Manager, other staff in the Department of Student
Services and across the University, the Counsellor will develop
policies, practices and procedures which will ensure access to a
high-quality experience for students in line with University policies
and statutory obligations. They will work closely with the Counselling
Service Manager to develop an innovative and responsive service to
students and the University, helping students to transform their lives
and maximise their potential.
The post-holder will also take responsibility for developing the
provision of LGBTQIA+ focused and informed services to complement the
existing counselling service, and to better meet the needs of our
LGBTQIA+ students.
