Job overview

Working in the radiotherapy department at Nottingham City Hospital as a support worker allows you to meet a wide variety of people and have a varied job role. The radiotherapy centre at NUH provides cancer care to patients from across Nottinghamshire and beyond.

Below are a few of the duties and this will suit someone who is outgoing and has a good manner with patients and their families.

You will work with a fantastic team of people across the department to deliver excellent care for our patients.

Main duties of the job

Work as a clinic support worker in the radiotherapy clinics.

Work as part of the receptionist team providing a front line face to face and telephone contact point for patients, visitors, carers and staff as and when required.

Assist with the care of patients as requested by the radiographers

Escort patients and carers/relatives across the whole campus and between the Radiotherapy Centre and South Radiotherapy Department using wheelchairs, trolleys and motorised vehicle.

Prepare patient related paper-work on behalf of the radiographers.

Arrange transport for patients by liaising with the ambulance service.

Be aware and understand the need for patient confidentiality at all times, including compliance with the Data Protection Act and the Access to Health Records Act.

Carry out errands between departments, collect documents from across the City Campus, answer telephones and take messages.

Provide basic information in response to patient and carer queries. Referring to a more senior staff member if required.

Working for our organisation

The radiotherapy team consists of many different staff groups from the admin team, support workers, physicist, radiographers and doctors. We all work together for the benefit of the patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To undertake clerical and reception duties providing a front line face to face and telephone contact point for the Radiotherapy Department

To support the oncology doctors in the radiotherapy clinics

To act as a chaperone and provide support for the patients in our care

To escort patients and their carers around the City Hospital campus (including driving an internal electric vehicle)

To comply with ISO 9001 quality system for the Radiotherapy Department

To provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support to the Radiotherapy Department
