Wood is looking to recruit EHV plant operatives with experience in excavator operations, cable installations and civils works.

**Purpose of the role**
- To assist in all aspects of Cable Installation & civils works.
- To carry out excavation works in various ground types, including carriageway.
- To deliver the work safely and in a controlled manner.
- Report any defectives & safety concerns as soon as reasonably practicable.
- Deliver the work safely.
- Deliver the work productively.
- Be reliable, trustworthy, and honest.
- To execute all activities safely and efficiently to agreed work plans, safety management system requirements and best working.

**Prime responsibilities and duties**
- Read, understand and implement all instructions, procedures and work instructions for the project, ensuring always, that the project works is undertaken safely and to a high standard.
- Comply with all Wood H&SE policy’s & procedures.
- To operate all plant & equipment in a controlled & safe manner.
- Complete all work scopes in accordance with instructions received from the cabling foreman.
- Be cooperative with all other site staff inclusive of other contractors.
- Be an inclusive part of the site team & willing to learn & strive to progress in the business.
- Reporting to Site Management of any defective/damaged plant & equipment & safety issues.
- Do not misuse or intentionally damage any item of PPE or equipment provided to you to undertake your role.
- Must be able to take instruction from the cable foreman & work under own initiative & as part of a team.
- Must be willing to assist with other site activities when there is no machine work to be undertaken.
- Do not operate any plant or equipment unless you hold the correct competencies & training.
- Undertake any health and safety training as required.
- Provide support to the site foreman.
- Must stop any work that is unsafe - Stop Work Authority - SWA
- Must put own safety and those of colleagues first.
- Must not operate any plant unless having the correct training and competence to do so.
- Must start work only after assessing the risks.
- Must demonstrate safety as an integral part of the job.
- To undertake any other duties as and when necessary to meet the varying demands of the business and satisfy customer needs.

- ECITB CCNSG Safety Passport / EUSR SHEA Power
- Excavator 360 above & below 10t
- Forward tipping dumper
- Cat & Genny training
- HSG 47
- Deep excavations training
- Asbestos Awareness E-Learning
- COSHH Awareness E-Learning
- Emergency at work first aid
- Hand Arm Vibration (HAVS) Awareness E-Learning
- Fire Awareness
- LOLER Awareness (E-Learning)
- Manual Handling Awareness E-Learning
- Wood Environmental Awareness (arranged on employment)
- Wood HSEAA Induction (arranged on employment)
- Wood Life Saving Rules (arranged on employment)

**Desirable**:

- Excavator 360 wheeled
- Excavator 180.
- Telehandler
- Winch training
- Street works training, NRSWA - operatives.
- ECITB Abrasive Wheels
- Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme
- Spill Management
- DVLA Towing Licence training and test

**Experience**

**Essential**:

- Working in the Utility/Construction Industry environment.
- Shoring installation.
- Ability to read and understand utility prints.
- Cable Installation experience, including setting up open track installations.
- Experience of working & excavation in a live substation environment.
- Experience of cable duct laying in agricultural & carriageway environments,
- Excavation experience, including carriageway.
- Experience of excavation in and around live services.
- Very good understanding of safety principles and requirements for all site activities.
- Ability to communicate clearly with foreman & other team members.
- Basic understanding of CDM.
- Understanding of working with Health and Safety and Quality policies.
- Experience of working in a team environment.
