We have an exciting fixed-term (6 months) opportunity for a part time Band 3 Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our Community Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team, based in Hounslow.

We are seeking an inspired and enthusiastic assistant to be a part of our close-working team, and who can help to drive the future of our service.

You will be joining a professional, friendly, and experienced team at the Heart of Hounslow, who can provide a range of opportunities for learning and development.

We are an innovative team, with a specialist community neuro and voice service, close links to local hospitals, and service development opportunities including group therapy, nursing home training and roll-out of Biozoon.

We provide a full trust induction programme, including provision of laptop, mobile and mandatory training. Our team offers well-established monthly supervision, with opportunities engage in peer supervision and continuing professional development and supporting clinicians to plan and run student placements. You will have access to a local base, agile working, and a team of supportive colleagues within the MDT with a range of skills and knowledge.

We carry out monthly SLT service meetings, engage in monthly in-service and cross-service CPD, and we also offer monthly case study discussions.

In this role you will provide therapeutic communication and dysphagia programmes in both one-to-one and group settings, under the guidance of a qualified speech and language therapist. You may deliver these sessions autonomously, or at times jointly with other members of the MDT. You will develop your knowledge of a range of neurological and non-neurological conditions by engaging in regular shadowing of qualified therapists to develop your knowledge and skills, completing telephone reviews on behalf of the Speech and Language Therapist, and engaging in regular continuous professional development. There may be opportunities to support clients with progressive conditions to complete voice-banking and facilitate the provision and set-up on low-tech and high-tech augmentative and alternative communication devices.

This role has opportunities to support the set up and provision of training programmes to nursing and care staff in the community, support the development and running of group therapy, and active engagement in the planning, development, and delivery of an effective service.

JOB PURPOSE

To be accountable to the Speech and Language Therapy Service Clinical Lead, and provide assistance for the Speech and Language Therapy team.

Clinically, this role includes providing therapy input, both group and individually, under the support of qualified Speech and Language Therapists. This may include carrying out therapy programmes for patients with a range of communication difficulties, or swallowing rehabilitation exercises. This role also involves liaising with patients, their relatives and other members of the MDT under the guidance of the qualified therapists.

This role also includes supporting administrative support for the Speech and Language Therapy team, including helping to create therapy resources, reviewing patients, note and letter writing and supporting audit within the team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- To deliver therapeutic intervention programmes to adults with acquired communication disorders, either individually or in groups, via telehealth or face-to-face, following activities laid out by a supervising speech and language therapist
