We are recruiting for Head of Nursing for Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) who wishes to join #TeamIOWNHS. The Head of Nursing for UEC is a great opportunity for a senior nursing leader with relevant experience to consider. Our UEC consists of an Emergency Department, Children's Emergency Department, Urgent Treatment Centre, Same Day Emergency care and an Acute assessment Unit.
The Investing in our future programme is a £23.7m upgrade at St Mary’s Hospital. This will create a new emergency care floor with a dedicated paediatric entrance, provide an new Intensive Care Unit and new enhanced care unit, reconfigure acute wards to improve the flow of patients through the hospital, and improve patient experience.
The UEC sits within the Unplanned care division, alongside Medicine, Pharmacy and Clinical site team. The Head of Nursing is part UEC leadership triumphant.
The Head of Nursing is responsible for the leadership and management of nursing and AHP’s within UEC. They have joint responsibility for the effective delivery of quality, financial and operational performance of the service line including ownership of key clinical quality performance targets and measures for the service.

The Head of Nursing is responsible for the leadership and management of nursing, midwifery or AHP’s within Urgent and Emergency Care. They are a key member of the management team for the UEC and will work closely with the Divisional Director of Nursing. They have joint responsibility for the effective delivery of quality, financial and operational performance of the service line including ownership of key clinical quality performance targets and measures for the service. Service specific aims, objectives and KPI’s will be detailed in each post holder’s personal appraisal.
The Head of Nursing, in conjunction with the senior divisional management team will set the strategic direction of the UEC, which must be consistent with the organisations Strategy, and Partnership arrangements.
The Head of Nursing has line management responsibility for Matrons. Ward leaders/ Charge nurses/ sisters and Team Leaders and responsibility for the delivery of quality nursing and therapy services within the UEC.
The Head of Nursing must establish and fosters an effective working relationship with colleagues from the multi-disciplinary team across the services managed within UEC, utilising their negotiating and influencing skills to secure and support change and improvement in care and service delivery within the UEC.
