A high profile, accessible and responsive leader with managerial and clinical responsibility for the Lotus vulnerable women’s team, who has a specialist knowledge in Perinatal Mental Health. The post holder will be able to make informed decisions within their own area and scope of professional practice, involving patients and public to ensure agreed standards and key performance indicators are met.

The post holder will practice in accordance with the NMC code of practice. They will be clinical leader within the maternity service specialising in perinatal mental health support for women and their families.

You will be expected to lead the Lotus team, which provides a continuity model of care for women with perinatal mental health and young mothers under the age of 21 years with additional vulnerabilities. This will involve working closely with the team members to provide education and training on and support those with perinatal mental health needs in line with Trust and national guidance; team build, organise others in their actions and set priorities, objectives, and goals within their sphere of practice.

The post holder undertake mental health clinical assessments and liaise with the perinatal mental health team to ensure appropriate treatment and evaluation of care.

The post holder will plan and manage episodes of care working in partnership with other members of the multidisciplinary team; delegating and referring as appropriate to optimise perinatal health outcomes and resource use, as well as providing direct support to other team members, patients and their families.

Co-ordinate the care of maternity patients throughout the care pathway with the multidisciplinary team and clinical services to ensure the effective management of this complex group of patients.
Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
Highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high-quality service within a complex and challenging environment with often, conflicting priorities.
Use perinatal mental health knowledge to manage patients with mental health needs presenting to all areas of maternity to ensure that optimum physical and psychological care needs are met.
Liaise with psychiatric teams and inpatient mental health provisions where pregnant women are admitted and cared for.
Promote and deliver evidence-based care for patients presenting to maternity.
Responsible for the implementation of and adherence to the Safeguarding policy with this group of patients
