**Academic Research Fellow**

Applicants are invited for two full time posts from October 2023 to join our excellent Trauma & Orthopaedic and Research Team within Surgery Division at the Queens Medical Centre, which is the busiest Major Trauma Centre in the United Kingdom.

These post are designed to provide the experience and training opportunities to achieve a doctoral level degree in research related to Trauma and Orthopaedics.

Main duties of the job

Teaching Medical Students.

Sub ST3 grade co-ordination.

Outpatient/ Theatre activity

There is a very active postgraduate programme with a clinical conference, lecture and seminar each week during term time.

Twice weekly X-ray conferences are held.

There are also many special clinics affording the opportunity to see specialised problems.

Facilities for clinical and laboratory research exist in the hospital and university. There is an active audit programme in which the appointee will be expected to play a full part in the research and audit of the department, and to demonstrate this through publication and presentation.

As one of the NHS Trusts identified in the New Hospital Programme, a programme of investment in NHS hospitals, we have extensive plans to improve our hospitals and the services we deliver for patients. As well as the redevelopment of the Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital, plans for a new 70 bed NHS rehabilitation facility set to be built on the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate near Loughborough, are currently going through the approvals process.

Post Graduate Qualification

- FRCS orth, FRCSC, FRACS

Experience

- Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems & practices (or equivalent).
- At least 4 years experience in Orthopaedics Complete or approaching completion of SpR Training.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
- Willing to seek help from senior colleagues as appropriate.

- Competent in history taking and examination Skills.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills

- Able to communicate effectively with patients and their relatives
