**Job summary**:
The Social Housing and Resettlement Directorate leads on the Department’s work on social housing supply and regulation including the Affordable Homes Programme and Right to Buy scheme, and the work to support the welcome, resettlement and integration of people seeking safety in the UK through protected routes.

The role is in the Local Authority Housing, Right to Buy and Allocations Division which comprises approximately 25 people. The Division’s work is at the heart of delivering key Government priorities with regards to local authority housing, which includes driving up social housing supply by supporting local authorities to build more, improving the council housing financing system, leading on management of the overall framework for how local authorities allocate social housing and increasing home ownership through the flagship Right to Buy scheme. It is a busy and exciting time to get involved in helping to shape and support priorities that will make a real impact to people’s lives.

We work very closely with colleagues working on wider social housing priorities driving up quality and increasing wider supply of affordable housing as well as homelessness and reform to the private rented sector. The team also work closely with a number of cross-government departments including MOD, DfE, FCDO and DWP as well as external stakeholders across local government, housing associations and the third sector. This is a fast-paced environment, but a friendly and supportive division, and presents a real opportunity to learn and develop.

**Job description**:
Responsibilities may include:

- Supporting outward facing engagement with councils and the wider sector; preparing briefings for senior officials, including working across teams.
- Providing policy and secretariat support; including preparation of board agendas, distribution of papers, taking minutes and follow up of agreed actions.
- Building and maintaining a network of internal and external stakeholders; ensuring any communication is appropriately cascaded.
- Gathering intelligence from stakeholders to inform policy development; maintaining a team intelligence log and sharing accordingly with policy leads.
- Monitoring and responding to queries in the Division’s shared inbox.
- Drafting replies to correspondence from Parliamentarians or the public.
- Working flexibly across the Division to support on other divisional priorities as and when required.

**Person specification**:
**Essential**:

- A confident writer; able to strike the right tone dependent on audience and purpose of communication.
- Articulate and confident speaking to seniors, including SCS.
- Able to build strong and effective relationships with colleagues across the Department and with the sector and local authority stakeholders.
- Proactive and comfortable working independently and flexibly.
- Highly organised and able to manage their time effectively, including managing multiple competing priorities.
- Experienced users of Office365, plus other collaborative tools.

**Desirable**:

- An interest in policy development, specifically in housing or local government.

Experience of stakeholder management.
