**We have a new and exciting opportunity as a Life Skills Coach for Care Leavers. You will be responsible for teaching the life skills needed for independence to our children in care age 16 plus up to age 18 and then supporting Care Leavers age 18 plus who may need additional support to develop their independence skills.**

**About the role**

This post is new to North Somerset Council and will require you to show initiative and creativity when it comes to delivering support/teaching young people and their Carers/Housing Projects.

As the Life Skills Coach, you will deliver your teaching/support based upon the resource Get Ready For Adult Life (GRAL) which North Somerset has recently reviewed and separated into 2 training packs one for under age 18 and one for over age 18. You will also train Foster Carers in preparing young people to become more independent and will work alongside Housing Providers to develop Life Skills support to our young people age 16-21. You will also be required to work closely with the Housing Advice Worker for Care Leavers and the Homelessness Reduction Lead Leaving Care PA.

**This is a fixed term contract for 12 months.**

**Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.**

**About you**

You will have the following skills, qualifications and experience:

- NVQ Level 3 Child Care/ Youth Work Award or equivalent,
- Participation in post qualifying/education training,
- Experience in supporting children and young people develop their independence skills to manage transition into adulthood,
- Prior experience working directly with children looked after and care leaving young people,
- A knowledge of Children Act 1989 and the Children Leaving Care Act 2000
- Knowledge of Child Protection Policy and Procedures
- Good standard of written English,
- The ability to keep accurate, evidence based records in accordance with departmental policy.
- Ability to work positively with children and young people,
- Able to confidently organise and facilitate groups and workshops.
