Household Finance Practitioner

We are seeking a motivated and dynamic person to provide support for households in East Durham who are facing challenges due to the cost of living crisis. Working as part of a small team, the Household Finance Practitioner will work directly with residents to help them better understand their financial situation, provide support to maximise household incomes, assist in developing their financial literacy and, where required, provide debt advice and support.

As the Household Finance Practitioner, you will support the delivery of direct support sessions alongside upholding the administrative systems required for monitoring of the project. This will include maintaining strong connections to wider support services, managing referral from community advice hubs, advice gateways and advice pathfinders and the East Durham Debt Centre. You will work alongside the Financial Wellbeing Practitioner and will work with identified households who require more in-depth support and, where appropriate, assist households to access the services of NE First Credit Union in their community.

You will help meet the complex needs of our communities by supporting the East Durham Connected project a partnership of VCS organisations, statutory providers and strategic bodies working together to deliver a proactive multi-year support project across all four corners of East Durham.

**Duties and Responsibilties...**
- **Direct Support of Households**:_
The facilitation of sustained support to households through a coaching model to develop action plans to enable improved financial health

To carry out financial assessments for referred households

To design and deploy tools and materials to assist in improving households financial knowledge and understanding in the longer term

Facilitate regular support though digital technology, telephone support and community based one to one and, where appropriate, group sessions

Provide a ‘no wrong door’ approach and effectively signpost people to relevant services

Link directly with the NE First Credit Union and the Durham County Council Financial Capability Team

Support the creation of connection points in the community
- **Service Delivery**:_

To manage a caseload of households and provide 1:1 support

To deliver information, advice and guidance directly to households

Preparation and co-production of appropriate action plans to enable clients to improve their financial health

Where required to provide accredited debt advice and support directly to households

To maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise about welfare reform, debt and future planning on money issues

Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times

To comply with the charity’s policies and value framework

**Operational Administration**:
Work in local communities to promote the service

To maintain accurate records of work undertaken with all households

To maintain the monitoring and evaluation systems in relation to direct support work undertaken

To maintain a secure client management system

To participate and contribute actively to team meetings, discussions and the development of the service.

The above is not exhaustive list and the post holder will be expected to undertake any duties which may reasonably fall within the level of responsibility and competence of the post as directed. Duties may include contributing towards East Durham Trusts direct community support activities, charitable aims and strategic purpose.
