Person specification

Physical skills

Essential criteria
- Skilled in the use of use IT packages, systems and/or databases to fulfil role requirements
- The ability to concentrate for long periods of time due to the varied and unpredictable work pattern
- Manual handling to include patient records
- Able to travel between NUH sites

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or with relevant equivalent experience
- Demonstration of ongoing professional development
- A firm understanding of patient confidentiality, how to maintain it and laws related to it

Desirable criteria
- Qualifications and courses associated with Patient Safety
- Qualifications and courses associated with leadership
- Qualifications and courses associated with service improvement

Experience

Essential criteria
- Experience of leading and coordinating investigations (i.e. HR, complaint, internal review of service investigations)
- Experience of service improvement methodologies
- Experience of working with external agencies and influencing internal change
- Evidence of using patient process redesign and/or other techniques to improve services
- Experience of working across organisational and professional boundaries in the development of healthcare services

Desirable criteria
- Experience of managing clinical incidents including serious incidents
- Experience of leading difficult and/or emotive discussions with patients, families, staff or other individuals
- Experience of HSIB
- Knowledge of relevant legislation
- Experience of working within the acute healthcare setting

Communication & relationship skills

Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels in the organisation including Trust Directors and Divisional Leadership Teams
- Able to present and receive complex information within a multi-professional team
- Demonstrate negotiation and influencing skills and ability to develop and maintain constructive relationships
- Assertiveness skills and the ability to deal with conflict
- Team player who can initiate, delegate and complete projects
- Demonstrate self-awareness and understanding of personal accountability

Desirable criteria
- Proven knowledge of national and local patient safety initiatives
- Demonstrate evidence of providing formal teaching/training sessions

Analytical & Judgement skills

Essential criteria
- Able to assimilate, analyse and present complex problems and data, identify necessary action, make recommendations and ensure actions are taken
- Ability to generate, report and present data to all levels of Trust personnel
- Demonstrate insight in the use of data to influence patient care and services
- Ability to receive, interpret and communicate complex data, which requires analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options
