**Job Purpose**
To coordinate the Impact and Innovation Pipeline, including identification, supporting development, and communication of impact arising from research within the College of Science and Engineering.
The focus of the role will be to work with academic and impact related staff both within and external to the College of Science and Engineering (CoSE), to identify opportunities for impact, coordinating the creation of impact development plans, and ensuring that impacts are clearly evidenced throughout the impact development lifecycle. The Research Impact Officer will also be responsible for maintaining a reportable database of impact stories, impact projects, and REF appropriate impact case studies. These will be used to raise the profile of research impact, both internally and externally and support the CoSE submission to REF and similar reporting.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. To maintain a detailed knowledge of research impact within the HE sector, including the Research Excellence Framework, and policy development from UKRI and other major funders, to provide intelligence on opportunities, support impact planning and contribute to the embedding of a positive impact culture more deeply in the College.
2. To provide support to develop impact from research, including the creation of impact development plans, identification of funding for impact, identification of evidence of impact, appropriate record keeping and the creation of audience specific case studies.
3. To coordinate the creation and management of the Impact and Innovation pipeline and use to produce and communicate management reports.
4. To raise awareness and support education of impact through the Early Career Development Programme and new staff induction.
5. Maintain an overview of the progress of impact development plans taking appropriate action to support, as required.
6. To work with researchers and professional services staff e.g. Communications team, to increase the visibility of research outputs and impact through media stories, case studies and web content.
7. Maintain effective working relationships with other colleagues working on Impact, including the College Impact Manager, KE Associates, R&I Impact team, and College Research Support Service.
8. Be actively involved in appropriate Cross-College /University wide collaborative working to build networks and share best practice.
9. Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of systems and procedures to ensure continuous improvement in the performance of Impact & Innovation support.
10. Coordinate REF related Impact and Impact case study related activities for CoSE, including, but not limited to:

a. Supporting the identification of REF Impact Case Studies
b. Leading on the writing of REF Impact Case Studies
c. Driving the progression of each case study, including information gathering, drafting, and involving relevant staff as appropriate.
d. Contributing to and coordinating Impact case study development and delivery for review by the College Approval Panel.
e. Coordinating interim assessment(s) of REF-readiness in impact terms, liaising with internal and external panel members and relevant University services as required
11. Assisting with other projects and activities, as requested by the Dean of Research and Head of College Research Support.

**Essential**:

A1 SCQF Level 9 (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification) or equivalent, (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s)
A2 Knowledge of the academic research environment and research impact agenda

**Desirable**:

B1 A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of HEI organisational structures, policies, and procedures
B2 Knowledge of impact assessment framework standardised through REF
