Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, on behalf of South West Pathology Network are delighted to be recruiting a Pathology Network Education Trainer to support Pathology training within the Trust and across the South West Pathology Network and South 4 Pathology Network. This is a brand-new post, supporting the commitment by Health Education England and NHS England to developing a sustainable pathology workforce across the Southwest Region.

We are looking for someone who is committed, self-motivated, and has a passion for training, with a solid understanding and experience of working in a laboratory at either Specialist or Senior Biomedical Scientist level. We are looking for enterprising and innovative approaches to the way we enable our staff to provide our services.

As this post is funded via the South West Pathology Network you will be required to work across-sites, within the Network as dictated by service needs to support training across the Network. There may also be a need to work with colleagues in South East as part of South 4 Pathology neetwork. All departments across the Network have or are seeking IBMS training approval, are ISO 15189:2012 accredited and encourage professional development.

To be considered for the role you must be suitably qualified (see Person Specification) and have significant experience and knowledge in working in a hospital Pathology laboratory. The South West Pathology Network and South 4 Pathology Network is looking to recruit Education Trainers across a variety of specialisms across all its member Trusts to support a range of training opportunities and to increase the number of Trainees and Biomedical Scientists having the opportunity to undertake either a Registration or Specialist Portfolio.

The role will involve working with the Trust Pathology training lead as well as other Network Education Trainers and Regional Pathology Workforce Education Leads supporting both registration and specialist portfolios. The successful applicant will also support all other staff with CPD opportunities.

This post is predominantly training-focused, but the post holder will be expected to ensure they maintain their own laboratory competencies and personal CPD.

1. Be the GWH training lead for and support training and development of staff across the pathology networks.
2. Provide advice, instruction, and guidance to staff across pathology with regards to training needs.
3. Gather analyse and present the information related to new opportunities in training or new developments in the field of Biomedical science in workshops, seminars and meetings.
4. Support the training officers in different laboratory sections and develop a rota to assign students/staff in appropriate section according to the assessment of their training needs.
5. Communicates educational and practice information through specialised training to students and staff in the department.
