We Do Group are delighted to be supporting a local government in West London, recruiting a Head of Finance to take ownership for three areas:

- Private limited companies owned by the local government
- Charities
- Tax

This is a varied role with a blend of reporting, relationship building and process improvement.

Hybrid working**:4 days from home, 1 day in the office**
Salary**:£63,000 - £77,000 p/a**

**The Role**
- You'll be at the forefront of interactions with our wholly-owned companies, putting in place effective commissioning arrangements, ensuring appropriate and transparent governance and exploring new opportunities
- You will support councillors through a new Shareholder Committee to understand all aspects of the council's interest in its companies
- You'll manage financial arrangements for the council's third party interests and charities, including guiding their strategic development and providing financial guidance
- You'll lead on putting in place and maintaining effective processes for managing the taxation arrangements of the council
- You will be at the heart of celebrating what the council has to offer and developing a strong unified brand and identity - a whole council, whole borough approach - which galvanises communities, attracts people to the borough and makes the council an influentialvoice for our residents
- You'll work effectively as one of the council’s senior managers, delivering corporate objectives through the work of service departments
- You’ll act as an ambassador for the borough, promoting and developing the council’s image and championing the interests of the community, stakeholders and partners
- You’ll demonstrate and ensure high standards of probity and compliance with council policy, standing orders and the law
- You’re a role model for effective and positive leadership behaviour that is outcome focused and forward-looking
- You’ll promote equality of opportunity and the recognition of diversity in the delivery of services and in employment practices
- You'll form robust strategic alliances and develop effective working arrangements with members, partners, government departments, user groups, businesses and voluntary sector groups
- You'll work as part of multi-disciplinary teams to enable the breaking down of departmental barriers and delivery of transformational projects
- You'll deputise as required for the Finance Director
- You'll lead and inspire the Companies, Charities and Tax team to be trusted and influential advisors across the council and its companies and charities, providing insight, creativity and support
- You'll be a highly visible role model within the service and across the council, companies and charities, with your contribution supporting the organisations in meeting their goals
- You'll provide strategic guidance and practical support for Council companies and charities, maintaining an in-depth knowledge of accounting and governance practices for such third parties
- You'll ensure the Council has effective processes in place to provide assurance that it has effective oversight as shareholder for a group of companies, test business plans to ensure they are deliverable and monitor associated risks
- You'll provide accountancy support and guidance to charities, ensuring they prepare annual accounts and statutory returns and that their tax and audit affairs are in order. You'll provide oversight to their financial planning and budgets and ensure effectivemonitoring
