Liverpool, United Kingdom Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust Full time

The Liverpool Women’s in partnership with Alder Hey are creating a specialist Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

The Partnership brings together two world renowned NHS organisations, working together to provide seamless Neonatal Services for the city of Liverpool: Liverpool Women's and Alder Hey Children's Hospital NHS Foundation trusts.

This is an exciting time to join the team. Our new 44 cot Neonatal Intensive Care Unit opened on the Liverpool Women's Hospital site in Spring 2020 and a 22 cot Surgical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will open on the Alder Hey Children's Hospital Site in October 2025. This new unit will consist of single-family rooms only and be the only unit of its type in the UK.

We are excited to be in a position to recruit a new Matron to join our team The post holder will carry primary responsibility for the continuing operational management of the surgical NICU on the Alder Hey site, whilst being accountable for providing professional nursing and clinical leadership. Under the Liverpool Neonatal Partnership, specialist neonatal staff from both Liverpool Women’s and Alder Hey Hospitals are working together to change and improve how neonatal services are delivered to families across the North West and provide the highest level of care for the most vulnerable babies in the region. This includes reducing the number of transfers of neonates between hospitals by 50%.

The post holder (Matron) will be a Registered Nurse and carry primary responsibility for the continuing operational management of the surgical NICU. However this will be a rotational post with the NICU at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

Whilst being accountable for providing professional nursing and clinical leadership. They will set and monitor both clinical and non-clinical performance standards and where necessary intervene to secure an immediate remedy where these fall short of what is required. The post holder will be highly visible and accessible to families and staff and focus on improving the fundamental and essential aspects of care to patients, including cleanliness, improving clinical care standards, ensuring best practice in infection control, ensuring quality improvement work is implemented and sustained and ensuring all families are treated with respect and dignity. The post holder will contribute to the strategic direction of nursing across the neonatal service.

Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust delivers the highest standards of care for women, babies and families. Each year we deliver over 7,500 babies, carry out over 49,000 gynaecological inpatient and outpatient procedures, care for over 1,000 poorly & preterm new-borns, perform around 1,000 IVF cycles and have over 4,000 genetic appointments taking place. We believe that this along with a strong dedication to research & innovation makes us the specialist health provider of choice in Europe for women, babies and families.

We have some of the leading experts in their field, which has been showcased on national TV and news, making our teams famous across the world for professionalism, skill & compassion.
