**About the Group**

**Ministerial and Communications**

The Ministerial and Communications Group sits at the heart of the Treasury. It provides support to Ministers, through the Ministerial offices; it acts as the external face of the Treasury, through the Press Office and Communications teams; and it is responsible for the management of the department, through its support for the Permanent Secretary, the Treasury Board and the Executive Management Board (EMB), and its ownership of Treasury governance structures. The Group is led by the Permanent Secretary.

**About the Team**

The Communications Team is responsible for all communications conducted by HM Treasury and its Ministers. We work closely with Ministers, special advisers and teams to help inform, promote and defend HMT policies and the government's economic plan through traditional and new media channels. The team is high-performing, supportive and fun. We work highly collaboratively across the different aspects of communications (press, internal, digital & events). The post-holder will need to be willing to work flexibly across priorities.

**Key Accountabilities**

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a variety of high-profile external partners to amplify new announcements, increase awareness of measures to support people, businesses and the economy and to demonstrate delivery of new Treasury schemes.

This role is likely to suit somebody with previous experience of working in an external affairs or partnerships team, events & visits team, press office, private office, communications team or similar.

**The post-holder will be responsible for following**:

- Lead an impactful external affairs branch, developing your direct report, and ensuring an inclusive work environment.
- Develop strong working relationships with Treasury policy and communications colleagues, as well as with other government departments, to ensure a joined-up approach.
- Provide strategic advice to the Chancellor on external engagement and handling, working closely with senior officials, as well as the media, press and policy leads and digital teams to develop comprehensive strategic external engagement plans ahead of each policy announcement and fiscal event.
- Develop strong two-way working relationships with key external partners to ensure they are appropriately informed around announcements and fiscal events, that the Treasury is aware of upcoming business announcements, and to provide insight into business sentiment.
