This is an exciting opportunity to lead work that will have a wide, system level impact on research in the UK. UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is hiring a strategic and operational lead for the UK Committee on Research Integrity (UK CORI). UK CORI operates independently of UKRI, working across the research system to promote and drive research integrity. However, the UK CORI secretariat is based within the UKRI central strategy team focusing on research culture and environment.

**About the role**

Reporting to the Head of Research Integrity, and working closely with the committee co-chairs, you will develop and deliver the committee's strategic plan and related workplan to help support research being conducted across the UK research system. We work with people at all levels of seniority and across a spectrum of roles, all of whom are committed to maintaining and improving honesty, transparency, rigour, accountability, care and respect in research. **Purpose**

Working with the Head of Research Integrity and the secretariat, the postholder will ensure that the committee is enabled to meet its objectives, including development of working groups, commissioning of research, and engaging widely with the research community. Current work areas include delivering the committee’s annual statement on research integrity, preventing poor research practice and misconduct, and developing potential indicators of research integrity.

Research integrity is fundamental to all research, so the postholder will need to be responsive to emerging and changing priorities. The role also requires working closely with teams across UKRI to cultivate a dynamic, diverse and all-encompassing system of R&I that is an integral part of society, giving everyone the opportunity to participate and to benefit.

**Key Responsibilities**

You will lead and deliver:

- strategic advice to the co-chairs and members of UK CORI, using an understanding of relevant policy areas and the political landscape
- secretariat functions, including effective governance, project management, and oversight of the committee programme budget
- influencing and collaborating with key stakeholders to gain support for UK CORI’s objectives and workplan
- commissioning specialist opinion, to build an evidence base which may be used by the committee in their annual statement on research integrity, or in recommendations related to specific workstreams
- identifying strategic opportunities which will benefit and support high integrity across the sector
- building effective and constructive relationships across the research system to effectively gather intelligence on key system-level policies and priorities, analysing and sharing these insights to inform the committee’s work
- leading a small team, creating an inclusive and supportive environment and a culture of collaboration and trust

**Key criteria for shortlisting and interview**

**Essential**
- **Policy knowledge. **Previous experience working in research and innovation policy, strategy, and/or funding landscape and ability to use this knowledge to translate strategic questions into deliverable work packages.
- **Committee experience.** Demonstrable track record of expertise and experience leading secretariat, policy and process functions for a senior committee, board, or similar governance structure, including working with members, managing budgets and understanding emerging opportunities and risks relevant to delivering system level change.
- **Delivering at pace. **Evidence of understanding and experience implementing good practice in project management and procedural principles while balancing resources and responding to different demands. Delivering at pace against multiple priorities while bearing in mind longer term goals.
- **Stakeholder management.** Able to build and maintain strong working relationships across the research system and with the committee, including ‘managing up’, and the ability to thoughtfully manage within a complex landscape, drawing on a positive and collaborative approach.
- **Communication.** Highly developed skills in the provision of clear and compelling communication to support internal and external relationships at every level both within and outside of the organisation, including the development of comms plans and messaging.
- **Line Management. **Ability to lead, motivate, empower and develop team members while supporting their wellbeing and helping them meet their full potential, including building resilience to ambiguity and change.
