We wish to appoint someone who has experience of the role and preferably with the NASENCO qualification. As a SENDCo, you’ll be an experienced teacher with a passion for supporting pupils with special educational needs. This role will be working closely with another SENDCo and not class based.

**Responsibilities**
- Implement the schools SEND strategy
- Carry out assessments of SEND pupils to identify needs and monitor progress - including undertaking SENDCo led interventions, classroom observations, meeting with class teachers and parents
- Work with class teachers, the senior leadership team, parents and external agencies to develop, implement and monitor individual support/learning plans
- Provide regular updates on pupil progress through written reports and parent meetings
- Make referrals and liaise with professionals outside of school
- Provide advice, guidance and training to classroom teachers on supporting pupils with SEND
- Support teacher to develop learning programmes for pupils with SEND
- Keep up to date with local and national policies related to SEND

**Skills**
- A strong commitment to raising educational attainment for children and young people with SEND, including working with pupils directly and supporting other staff to do so
- A willingness and ability to develop specialist knowledge and keep up to date with local and national policy developments
- Leadership skills - to inspire and motivate teachers, model good practice and continue to develop whole school commitment to supporting pupils with SEND
- Interpersonal skills - building relationships with parents, teachers and external professionals
- Interpersonal skills - to be able to work alongside another SENDCo to ensure effective support and workload for each person is appropriate
- Written communication skills - for learning and support plans, reports on pupil progress, and training and guidance for staff
- Organisation and time management skills - prioritising and balancing a busy and varied work load

**Work Experience**
- Experience of teaching and supporting children with SEND is essential.
- Experience of liaising and working alongside external agencies is essential
