Hybrid working between home and either Embankment House, Nottingham (NG2 1AG), or Victoria Square House, Birmingham (B2 4AJ). Some travel between either site may be required.

**Overview**

The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) is an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ).

The Public Guardian’s responsibilities include registering lasting powers of attorney, supervising the work of deputies and guardians of missing persons and protecting people who lack the capacity to make decisions for themselves. The Public Guardian’s responsibilities extend across England and Wales.

This role involves developing, writing, and maintaining technical/process guidance relevant to OPG Investigations, IST, ITAS, and Visits. The role also includes analysis of quality performance information to inform and prepare management reports relating to the LPA Investigations business unit.

The role can be based at our Birmingham or Nottingham office.

**Job Description, Duties and Responsibilities**

This role is an opportunity to create and maintain guidance for the investigations, IST ITAS, and Visits team. The guidance you create will support the delivery of an excellent service and business change. You will work collaboratively with SIS teams and other internal OPG teams to ensure your guidance and job card content are of high quality and accurately reflect operating processes.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Managing requests for guidance received into the team, drafting new and updating existing technical guidance, developing a job card investigation manual, working with other teams across OPG to ensure investigations, IST, ITAS and Visits guidance needs are being met and liaise regularly with the OPG Internal guidance, Policy and Legal teams.
- When developing guidance, consider relevant legislation including the Mental Capacity Act and Regulations, the MCA Code of Practice and other OPG policies to ensure an accurate and consistent service.
- Maintain a central repository of guidance, including records of the changes made, allowing a clear and auditable record with appropriate documentation.
- Explore and use digital channels, including ‘Wordpress’ and other tools where possible, when developing or amending guidance and interacting with OPG teams.
- Ensure knowledge of working practices and processes remains up to date, which could include working on live investigations work.
- Identifying areas for improvement or changes needed in the operational technical guidance available to Investigations, IST, ITAS and Visits staff.
- Liaise with Investigators, Senior Investigators to ensure training requirements are scheduled regularly, accounting for changes in work areas and business demands.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills - liaising with line managers/ L&D/ other teams - keeping up with of changes and developments.
- Management and analysis of quality performance information to inform and prepare management reports.

**Skills & Qualifications**

**Essential Criteria**:

- Experience of writing guidance documents.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build positive relationship with team leaders and colleagues.
- An excellent attention to detail, producing work of high quality. Highly proficient in standard Microsoft Office packages including Word, Teams, PowerPoint and Excel.

**Desirable Criteria**:

- LPA process knowledge.
- LPA/EPA Investigations knowledge.
- Knowledge of the MCA and Code of Practice.
