**Salon Assistant - Job Description**

A Salon Assistant is the unsung hero of our salon, the person that warmly welcomes our clients and the first face they see as they enter.

You are essential in making the day-to-day operations run smoothly, from providing our clients with drinks and making them feel at home, to the smooth and efficient running of our salon booking and till systems. You will also be required to perform a number of in-salon duties such as scalp massages, shampoo and rinsing. You will also be responsible for sweeping the floors and keeping our salon looking neat and tidy. In short, you are our lynchpin

**Roles & Responsibilities**

You’ll be expected to do a number of essential duties, including:

- Greeting clients and providing them with refreshments
- Preparing clients for treatment
- Shampooing clients hair
- Disinfecting equipment
- Sweeping floors
- Folding towels
- Keeping the salon clean and tidy
- Stocking the retail areas
- Assisting stylists and colourists
- Answering phonecalls
- Selling Retail hair care products
- Assisting on the front desk - answering calls and booking appointments

The team at Emma Loen also have a passion for creativity. As part of our core team, you will be asked to take an active part and contribute in our biannual Salon Collection event, which showcase our teams skills and upcoming trends and fashions in the hair-care industry.

**Education**

Some Salon Assistants will already have just qualified with an NVQ level in hairdressing whilst others might still be in training to acquire their hairdressing qualifications and be afforded day release to attend college in support of gaining their NVQ level 2 hairdressing qualification.

Emma Loen salon has a structured in-house training program which will enable the salon assistant to progress through the salon ranks to becoming a hair stylist themselves. This process will often involve shadowing a senior stylist to observe, assist practice skills such as blow drying and eventually cutting, foils and colouring.

**Career Progression**

For many aspiring stylists/colourists, becoming Salon Assistant is one of the first steps of a career ladder in the hairdressing industry.

At Emma Loen, the role is usually therefore taken up by people with an ambition to become a hair stylist or colour technician. It’s a role where you learn the fundamentals of the job from the best and most experienced people in the industry.

Once qualified and trained to the salon's standard, a Salon Assistant at Emma Loen will progress to the salon floor and acquire their own column of clients.

**Hours and Working Environment**

Our Salon assistants work within a 5 day working rota - including a Saturday - from 9am to 6pm, with one hour for lunch. You’re working towards a purposeful career goal and are able to learn while you gain experience. Ultimately, the more you put into the role the more you’ll get out of it.
