**Role Summary**

Working with the Hospice Executive Team, the post-holder will be responsible for over-seeing the Hospices Training and Education Programme. This will include the development and planning of both mandatory and developmental training for Hospice staff. The post-holder will, when appropriate contribute to the delivery of in-house training and be responsible for sourcing external training that meets the needs of Hospice staff development and the Hospices business objectives.

Other responsibilities will include working with the Human Resources Department and Director of Operational Services to maintain accurate and detailed training records that evidence Hospice staff having the necessary skills, abilities and qualifications to meet the Hospices legal and professional obligations.

**Key Tasks**
- Source external training progammes appropriate to the needs of the Hospices staff
- Undertake and use baseline, and then annual, training and education audits, as well as research and audit from elsewhere, to inform the planning of the Hospices training programme
- Work with the Director of Operational Services and Heads of Departments, in the planning of annual training programmes for Hospice staff
- Work with the Medical Director to co-ordinate the delivery of the Hospice’s Medical Training Programme. This will include the infection control link nurse programme and also any identified on-line learning
- Work with the Director of Operational Services and Heads of Departments to help co-ordinate the delivery of induction training to Hospice staff
- Contribute to the Hospice Clinical Governance Programme, providing monthly training reports to the Head of Clinical Services, Director of Operational Services and feedback to the Clinical Governance meetings
- Develop relationships and liaise with other training and educational organisations to source best value training opportunities for the Hospice
- Represent the Hospice at external training, education and audit meetings as appropriate, particularly within wider regional clinical networks
- Ensure that Hospice staff are aware of their training responsibilities and are available for scheduled training as required
- Be an active member of the wider Hospice team, contributing to operational management and service development
- Work and liaise with other departments, such as Human Resources, to ensure accurate records are maintained of training and development by Hospice staff
- To identify the Educational and Training needs of staff, and ensure the provision of necessary training
- To co-ordinate the provision of mandatory training for Hospice staff with the required attendance supported and records maintained
- Support the development of an annual mandatory and training plan, as required
- Support the Head of Clinical Services with co-ordinating the mentorship and support of students on placement
- Ensure own continued professional development as outlined by the professional body
- E-learning - support introduction maintenance, recording and mandatory updates
- Database - support introduction, maintenance, recording and mandatory updates
- Attend mandatory training sessions, as required
- Support Link Nurse roles
- Participate in and contribute to own individual performance review and appraisal
- Bring to the attention of the Hospice Quality Assurance Team, any changes that impact upon the Hospices policies and procedures
- Be aware of and deal with any identified issues or risk under Health and Safety legislation
- Lead by example, acting responsibly at all times and ensuring that your actions do not bring the Hospice into disrepute
- Attend and participate in meetings and events as may be reasonably required in the best interest of the Hospice.

**Policies and Procedures**
- Understand and comply with the policies and practices of Halton Haven Hospice.
- Undertaking of policy development and review in line with set schedule of work
- Attend statutory training in accordance with Halton Haven Hospice requirements.

**Health and Safety**
- The post holder must familiarise themselves with matters relating to health and safety management as they affect them personally and/or Halton Haven Hospice reporting any potential risks to life or property immediately in accordance with the Halton Haven Hospice Health & Safety policy and procedures. Staff must use all equipment provided to undertake their role safely.

**Other**
- Maintain absolute confidentiality in all areas of work.
- Always behave with complete integrity, respect and professional dignity ensuring actions enhance the reputation of themselves and the charity.
- Any other duties commensurate with the grade and post.

**Safeguarding**
- It is the responsibility of the Hospice Trustees to oversee the implementation of the Safeguarding policies, supported operationally by the Executive Management Team.
