The Isle of Wight Orthoptic department is looking for an exceptional and experienced Highly Specialist Orthoptist to join our growing team as we continue to develop into a variety of extended roles.

This new position has been created to support the expanding orthoptic and glaucoma services. Although the role will be focused on glaucoma, the individual will have the freedom and autonomy to tailor the role to suit their own professional interests. Our department is working to become an accredited orthoptic placement site this year and we are looking applicants who are enthusiastic about education to become part of the clinical tutor team. As a small team, we fully support individual development plans and provide the protected time and finances to grow and advance.

We are also able to offer this role as a training post on a Band 6 annex 21 basis.

As an autonomous practitioner you will plan, implement and monitor individual orthoptic treatment plans/care pathways for patients of all ages using advanced clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.

You will have an extended role in glaucoma and additional extended roles can be tailored to the your areas of special interest.

You will also provide specialist training and education to orthoptic undergraduate students, pre-reg optometrists, health care assistants and nurses.
