Male Support Worker/carer

A position is available for a **male Care Assistant/Support Worker **who will work with an existing team to provide assistance to a 10 year-old boy. The position will be flexible and hours will vary during term time and the school holidays.
**Term Time** - Wednesdays from 4pm - 8.30pm
Saturday 12pm - 8.30pm and Sunday 10am - 8.30pm (23.5 hours per week).
**School holidays**:
Saturday 12pm - 8.30pm and Sunday 10am - 8.30pm (34 hours per week)
**Person specification**
The individual will need to be energetic to carry out the necessary duties, caring and understanding of the needs of the child and the family and to be patient and adaptive so as to be able to adjust to the needs of the child. You will be punctual and reliable as the child needs consistency and is not able to understand change at the last minute due to be very routine based. Flexibility is necessary as you need to be able to think on your feet and adapt where required. Ultimately you must be trustworthy and responsible as you will be working within the family home and at times be working on a one-to-one basis in a personal setting.
**The Child**
He is a 10 year-old boy with very complex needs. He is an avid West Ham united fan who Is football obsessed and loves to watch videos on YouTube and also play it daily both indoors and outdoors. He loves most sports and although some are rather complex to undertake, he likes to attempt what he can.
He presents much like many children but his needs are much more than an average child. Due to Neurological injuries at birth, he has Epilepsy for which is controlled with medication and he has visual impairment with both learning and emotional difficulties. He follows an almost daily routine that allows him to let off energy and release any built-up tension he has accumulated throughout the day.
**Job Requirements**
You will be required to engage in various sports although the need be good at them is not an issue as he will show you what you need to do to participate. You will work at the family home and go out to community events such as football matches and going to the park. During the school holidays the family often go away to their holiday home near the seaside. It may aid an applicant if they had the ability to be flexible in line with this though it is not imperative but would be a plus if it is at all possible.
**Experience of working with children is desirable** but this will not exclude you if you do not have any. You will need to offer personal care at times should the child have an episode of incontinence to ensure the child is clean and in a clean change of clothes. Full training will be given for all aspects of the role including medication administration and health and safety courses in-line with the job requirements.
**Job details**
The hours will be varied depending on whether it is term time or school holidays. Predominantly it will be a day during the week and a day or two at the weekends during term time and during the school holidays it will increase to reflect the fact the child is not at school. You will be required to cover existing care staff holidays so during this time it may require evenings work.
**It is essential that you have a driving licence**
