**The job**

Our Strategic Freight team are currently seeking someone to join them as Head of Freight Data Strategy and Insights in order to lead the improvements in the architecture and usage of freight data across the industry.

You will be responsible for developing strategies to create and maximise evidence led insights to enable decisions to be made to inform sustainable freight growth and rail freight transformation. You will also take responsibility for identifying and implementing innovative analytical approach that will help address more effectively the most challenging strategic questions. This will therefore inform the long-term strategy for Rail, in particular the accommodation of predicted future growth and de-carbonisation

This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to promote and embed, as a primary advocate, a culture of treating freight data as a valuable corporate asset across the industry, identifying and working with responsible owners to improve behaviours around easier access to data and maintaining data quality.

The last few years have showcased the importance of the Rail Freight Industry with its ability to generate large revenue and potential to grow on show for all The Freight team are looking to capitalise on the area’s potential by working strategically to continue making GBRTT’s Freight Strategy cutting edge in the industry and beyond.

**What you’ll bring**
- High-calibre energetic and engaging leader, with experience in working across and within multi-disciplined teams.
- Significant experience within transport to understand the context and consequences of insights and recommendations.
- Customer-first mindset, with substantial knowledge and detailed understanding of customer segmentation and management systems.
- Strategic thinker with extensive and demonstrable research, analysis and reporting expertise including leading technical specialists from across industry in a virtual team.
- Demonstrable breadth of knowledge on reporting techniques, processes, best practice and tools, including a strong understanding of data techniques and how to implement them.
- Significant experience in drawing together actionable recommendations supported by well-articulated evidence.
- Experienced and confident to carry authority in discussions with DfT, Freight Operating Companies, ORR, Network Rail and other industry players.
- Highly adept, influential collaborative and a persuasive communicator, with an ability to present and articulate complex matters in a simple and effective way to a range of stakeholders, and to gain FOC, DfT, HM Treasury and customer buy-in and commitment.

This role is available on a **Fixed Term Contract** and **Secondment** basis until 31st October 2024.
