Mental Health Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the GM Universities Student Mental Health Service for a Mental Health Nurse or Mental Health Practitioner posts.
The service receives referrals from the Five Greater Manchester Universities counselling and wellbeing services. The aim of the service is to provide proactive mental health assessment, support and interventions from experienced Mental Health professionals to students to enable them to fulfil their university ambitions and experience. Students with pre-existing mental health problems or those whose mental health problems emerge whilst at university will be supported to succeed and to manage their mental health.
The role will be to support the wider multi-disciplinary team with a student’s journey through the service from assessment to discharge. The role will enable us to have a more dynamic and assertive assessment and discharge process in accessing hard-to-reach students and We believe this role would provide an opportunity to develop this offer and strengthen and influence existing pathways.
The role will embed the principles and practice of co-production. Rather than a traditional model of workers ‘doing’ and individuals ‘receiving’, workers and students will co-create the objectives and actions together. Decision making will be a shared process and both the worker and student will take responsibility for acting upon the decisions made.
We work in partnership with the region’s five Universities (University of Bolton, University of Salford, University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University and the Royal Northern College of Music). This service is supported by the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership.
Our services will be accessed via a referral from the existing universities’ counselling services. It is based at the University of Manchester, with satellite clinics at the University of Bolton and University of Salford.
The aim of the service is to provide mental health assessment, support and interventions to students to enable them to fulfil their university ambitions and experience.
Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) Foundation Trust employs over 6,400 members of staff, who deliver services from more than 160 locations.
We provide inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bolton, the city of Manchester, Salford, Trafford and the borough of Wigan, and a wide range of specialist mental health and substance misuse services across Greater Manchester, the north west of England and beyond.
Greater Manchester is one of the world's most innovative, original and exciting places to live and work. From the beauty of the surrounding countryside to the heart of the vibrant inner city with great shopping, entertainment and dining options.
Wherever you go you will experience a great northern welcome with people famed for their warmth, humour and generosity.
Our people enjoy their work, have opportunities to learn and develop their skills and are encouraged to generate new ideas that improve care for our service users
