**About Us**

The Way Inn started out as a vision from Marnie Taylor in 1987. She knew there was a need for a 'Pastoral Centre' in Berkhamsted with a listening ear to support the churches in the town and provide for the local people on a day to day basis, whether they are young or old and to give them time, care and attention.

Over the years changes have occurred at The Way Inn. The Bookshop / Christian Resource Centre has grown. It offers a wide variety of gifts and stationery and the premises has become a collection and distribution centre for the Dacorum Foodbank.

**The Role of The Bookshop Lead**

Commercially aware and constantly looking for new business opportunities, bookshop leads motivate their teams and create a safe and energised work environment. They have high standards, a strong drive to achieve results and are accountable for their business.

**Please note: this role may require weekend working (Saturday half day).**

**PURPOSE OF THE ROLE**

To support the Trustees by ensuring all day-to-day operations are carried out effectively and to assist the development of the Way Inn Christian Centre retail offer.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- To be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Bookshop, ensuring sales and stock are processed accurately, stock and takings are kept secure, and the shop floor is kept in good order and merchandised to a high standard.
- To assist with the development of the Bookshop’s offer, contributing ideas, helping to source products, and communicating with suppliers and reps.
- To be responsible for leading the day-to-day operation of the bookshop shop, ensuring information is updated regularly, orders are processed efficiently, and customers are kept up to date.
- Ability to build positive relationships with other colleagues. provide excellent customer service, and engage with local community and other civil society organisation
- Demonstrate resilience to everyday pressures that come with the role and manage conflicting demands seeking appropriate support, advice and guidance.
- Numerate and financial literate, able to interpret basic financial reports, monitor budgets and maintain shops administrative systems.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**Communication**
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Builds positive working relationships.
- Good administration, numeracy, and IT skills.
- A proven ability to engage with the public in a calm and confident manner.

**Technical Experience (Desirable but not essential competencies)**
- Previous experience of bookselling.
- Experience in buying and sourcing products.
- Experience in stock control and stock management.
- Experience of working in the cultural/museums sector.
- Previous experience of an EPOS system.
- Experience of working with Social Media.

**TERMS AND CONDITIONS**
- Fixed Term Contract (6 Months)
- Part Time 20 hours per week
- The salary is offered at between £20,500 to £26,400 per annum depending on experience. Standard WICC terms and conditions will apply.
- Need to uphold the ethos of the Way Inn Christian Centre.

You will need to provide evidence that you have the necessary permission to work in the UK.

**Salary**: £20,500.00-£24,500.00 per year
