Physician's Associate - Emergency & General Surgery, Band 7

**Fixed-Term**: 12 months due to funding

- To provide planned care such as Ambulatory care and Hot clinics in a way that’s safe and efficient for patients
- To make sure that our team have the right skills and experience through high quality multi professional training
- To be innovative in our service design, using data to drive forward change

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East.

We have nearly 7,000 members of staff that arePROUD to Carefor nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing significant Capital year on year in our estate. We have recently completed a £30m expansion of our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and are planning an ambitious £60m development of an Ambulatory Diagnostics Centre at West Middlesex.
- To improve the efficiency of the emergency general surgery team and support the emergency surgery pathways and clinical workload
- To assess, clerk and review patients that are referred to surgery via the Emergency Department or General Practice
- To participate, and lead where appropriate, in ward rounds
- To perform and assist with practical procedures such as venepuncture, cannulas, blood gases, urinary catheters, incision and drainage, and support the booking of procedures and investigations as appropriate
- To participate in multidisciplinary meetings
- To support our general surgical colleagues by identifying and referring suitable patients for review in the Surgical Same Day Emergency Care unit
- To facilitate the safe and timely discharge of patients
- To contribute to the achievement and maintenance of key performance indicators
- To act as a consistent member of the team and to help in handover processes and continuity of care for our patients
- To participate in teaching and quality improvement projects - developing and embedding new and innovative practices and policies
- To provide excellent urgent and emergency care
- To provide planned care such as Ambulatory care and Hot clinics in a way that’s safe and efficient for patient
- To make sure that our team have the right skills and experience through high quality multi professional training
