**Contract Term/Hours**: Term time only, plus 5 INSET days - 37 hours per week.**Responsible to**: **Head teacher, SLT - Head of Sixth Form and Head of Year 12/13**

**Core Purpose**:
As a member of our wider Pastoral & Interventions Team in school, and aligned with our school values, the Academic Mentor will support students to build ambition, confidence and resilience. The Academic Mentor will support the implementation of our _Ready to Learn The Alsop Way Learning Habits_ to support academic excellence for our students during their time in Sixth Form and in preparation for university, higher level apprenticeship or place work.**Key responsibilities**:

- To implement a range of strategies, including, but not limited to, goal setting, performance monitoring and motivational coaching that will challenge the identified cohort of students to fulfil their academic potential.
- To act as a point of contact and champion our students through the promotion of our high standards and expectations, underpinned with compassion; rigour with a smile.
- To promote a culture of learning and aspiration in line with our school values to inspire, challenge and motivate our students.
- To develop, deliver and evaluate an individual student action plan, including timetabled supervised study, with a clear start and end point in consultation with HoY 12 / 13 and KS5 teaching staff for identified students.
- To systematically monitor and track the progress of an identified cohort of students and integrate appropriate academic support plans to enable successful outcomes.
- To provide objective and accurate feedback / reports as required on student engagement and progress.
- To encourage students to attend all relevant revision and booster sessions throughout the academic year.
- To ensure effective communication across all relevant stakeholders regarding intervention applied, action points and outcomes, to effectively support the progress of the identified cohort of students.
- To attend Sixth Form team meetings and liaise with Form Tutors and Heads of Year in relation to updates and progress of individual students / cohorts.
- To develop and deliver a study skills programme to an assigned cohort / as part of our PDR Programme on a one-to-one or small group basis and support students to develop effective study skills, revision timetables and provide general revision advice.
- To manage student use of the Sixth Form Study Area, ensuring that an environment which is conducive to independent learning is maintained at all times.
- To supervise Academic Study periods ensuring that students are undertaking pre-prepared or self-directed learning activities
- To promote the Sixth Form and support the recruitment process into Year 12 for internal and external students

**Associated Duties**:

- Be aware of and comply with all the School and Trust’s policies and procedures especially relating to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person in a prompt manner.
- To report all safeguarding information and concerns to the Designated Senior Leader. This should be completed promptly, factually, and in line with the school’s confidentiality requirements.
- To attend statutory training as and when required.
- Undertake any reasonable duty deemed necessary by the Line Manager / Senior Leadership Team.
- Be flexible with working hours to suit the needs of the school, for example on Open Evenings.

**Salary**: £18,139.00-£21,253.00 per year
