Based in the dispensary, you will provide clerical support by taking receipt of prescriptions, answering routine telephone calls and performing other administration duties associated with a busy pharmacy department. You will also be involved in offering advice to customers regarding “over-the-counter” remedies under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. You will be involved with the effective distribution of emergency drug boxes and sepsis boxes to wards and departments.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our busy pharmacy department, who are seeking a receptionist for the Pharmacy dispensary.

Working alongside a strong team of assistants, technicians and pharmacists', the pharmacy receptionist provides a vital administrative and reception support to our patient's and clinical staff.

To be an ambassador for the pharmacy department by providing an efficient and professional reception service.

To co-operate in all aspects of reception duties including the receipt of inpatient, discharge and out patient prescriptions into the department from the pharmacy hatch. Ensuring all declarations on prescriptions are completed in accordance with government requirements and relevant prescription charges are collected.

To participate in the management of ordering, receipt and supply of all controlled stationery e.g. outpatient prescriptions, to appropriate areas throughout the trust.

To carry out the daily banking of monies from prescription charges and the pharmacy shop.

To carry out pharmacy shop duties including a weekly stock check of shop items, create a weekly order, receive the items from the wholesaler including customer specific requests and to assist the senior technician in completing shop finance spread sheets and price matching.

To provide advice to customers when selling over the counter medication in the pharmacy shop and when giving out repeat medication to patients and relatives.

To ensure all barcodes are entered into the pharmacy cash register and to help train all staff in using the cash register and card reader machine, in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure.

To ensure that all relevant patient information is available within the patient waiting room.

To assist in routine duties in the dispensary including putting away new stock, maintenance of stock levels, checking expiry dates. Ensuring overall tidiness of the department and cleaning of counting triangle

To help ensure the correct distribution and rotation of emergency boxes and sepsis boxes to the wards, according to the Standard Operating Procedure.

To replenish bottle, carton and sundry items within the dispensary on a daily basis, book out such items via the pharmacy stock control system and place orders via the SBS/Oracle system.

To answer telephone and face to face queries of a routine or basic nature from a wide range of staff groups and patients, referring appropriate queries to the relevant member of the pharmacy team when necessary.

To carry out filing of prescriptions ensuring the maintenance of good record keeping following departmental standard operating procedures.

To assist in the compilation of department statistics and audit projects.

To ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times.

To ensure that procedures are carried out in accordance with safe systems of work in Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and those regulations in respect of the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH and other legislation are complied with.
