Responsible to: Museum Director
Responsible for: Volunteer Learning and Outreach Delivery teams
Starting Salary: £17,000 per annum
Contract: Part-Time (22.5 hrs/w) Fixed term contract until end January 2027
Purpose of the Post: To develop and manage the Museum’s formal (scholastic) learning, informal learning, and events programmes, and to coordinate the Museum’s Community support services and activities.
**Key Operational Responsibilities**:
To review Learning, Volunteering, and Training Plans to reflect changing circumstances and development.
To develop and plan, with the Education Team, a formal Learning Strategy and activity plan linked to the National Curriculum.
To coordinate and deliver the learning programmes with support from the Museum Director and volunteer teams.
To be responsible for the budgets relating to learning activities, volunteering, and training programmes.
To manage the day-to-day work of the Volunteer Learning team and oversee the organisation of volunteer rotas and work schedules using an online management system.
To develop the scope for informal learning (especially families) activities and create a plan for delivery that involves volunteers, community partners and others in its delivery.
**Volunteers & Training**:
With the Museum Director, implement the museum’s Volunteer Policy, and Plan.
Develop and manage the delivery of a sustainable volunteer structure and training programme.
Work with others to develop new role descriptions and recruitment documentation for volunteers.
Recruit new volunteers, and administer necessary references, DBS checks, etc.
Identify skills gaps and design and manage the volunteer training programme.
To monitor the success of the volunteering, training and learning programmes through regular feedback from volunteers and freelance providers as well as participants.
With the Volunteer Forum, organise volunteer social and recognition events.
Design, develop and manage efficient administrative processes and procedures that support volunteer activity to maximise the effectiveness of the programme.
**Other Duties**:
To act as Museum Duty Manager, in collaboration with Museum Director, to ensure that there is always a management presence at the museum while visitors and volunteers are on site.
To develop and manage formal and informal learning relationships, collaborations, and partnerships with external organisations.
To provide training and guidance to other staff, freelance providers, and volunteers on formal and informal learning and volunteering and training policies and plans, as appropriate.
To represent the museum at appropriate external meetings and events.
To respond to and deal with members of the public in a professional manner.
To be flexible in working arrangements, including working weekends when required.
To be committed to health and safety and ensure familiarity with the museum’s health and safety policies and procedures.

To work with a minimum of direct supervision.
To work effectively with a range of digital tools/platforms, particularly Microsoft Office.
**Ideally, you will have**:
Relevant qualifications to A level standard or equivalent.
Experience of developing and delivering heritage services, activities, and events.
Experience of creating and implementing learning programmes in an arts or heritage organization.
Experience of managing volunteers.
Experience of working with schools and informal learning organisations.
Experience of working with community stakeholders and community wellbeing actors.
Experience of event planning and delivery.
