**JOB DESCRIPTION: Senior Domestic Violence and Abuse Practitioner**

**Location** **Bristol (some UK based remote working)**

**Salary** £33,037 (based on WA pay scale point 35-39 + ILW of £3,415 where relevant)

**Reports to** Manager of Direct Services

**Length of contract** 37hrs per week - Permanent.

**MAIN PURPOSE OF POST**
The No Woman Turned Away Project (NWTA) provides telephone advocacy and support to women experiencing domestic violence and abuse who have barriers to accessing safe or refuge accommodation. The Senior Practitioner will be responsible for the line management of a small team of Domestic Violence and Abuse Practitioners and provide support and guidance to staff on a day-to-day basis as required. The Senior Practitioner will assist with the ongoing delivery of the NWTA project and as part of this, they will be responsible for recruitment, training, support, quality assurance and supervision as well as direct support to survivors as and when required.

**DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Support the Manager in developing and implementing systems and practice that will ensure the consistent delivery of a high quality and efficient service.
- Support the Manager in ensuring the development and implementation of effective policies and procedures, and activities that meet funders requirements.
- Support the training and development of staff, including assisting with induction, shadowing, and opportunities of new staff.
- Supporting the Manager in holding practice reviews where cases raise safeguarding concerns and identify ways of working that can be improved.
- Responsible for safeguarding management and oversight/decision making in the need for emergency intervention.
- Responsible for line management of the domestic violence and abuse specialist practitioners.
- Provide guidance to staff on a day-to-day basis, answering case queries and being on hand to provide support and advice as required.
- Oversee both the effective and timely allocation of referrals, and the management of the caseload, including assistance with casework and case holding as required.
- Assist in the placement of difficult to place and complex referrals, monitoring the barriers and the roles placed by different agencies.
- Build and maintain effective relationships and referral pathways with Women’s Aid Member Services and any external agencies as required.
- Liaise with internal teams to communicate the impact of the project and potential actions to increase referrals to the project.
- Assist with the gathering and monitoring of referral and outcome data for the project and written reports both internally and externally as required.

**EXPERIENCE**

**Essential**:

- Experience of working in services which deliver positive outcomes and delivering support either face to face or by telephone to vulnerable adults or/and children who may have experienced complex situations.
- Demonstrable understanding of safeguarding issues and the management of risk.
- Experience of recruiting, training, managing, and supervising or mentoring people
- Experience of using computer-based information systems.
- Experience of case management systems and data collection.

**SKILLS & ABILITIES**

**Essential**:

- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, able to communicate at a variety of levels to a wide range of audiences.
- Efficient planning and organising skills, able to work to deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Management skills and ability to coach staff and manage performance to ensure high quality service provision.
- Ability to work sympathetically and appropriately with survivors of domestic violence and specialist service providers.
- Ability to evaluate service provision and support improvements to services.

**KNOWLEDGE**

**Essential**:

- Knowledge of safeguarding issues relating to working with vulnerable women and children.
- Understanding of the need for confidentiality and accurate record keeping.
