StokeonTrent, United Kingdom University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust Full time

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of the Sleep Physiology Service at the University Hospital of North Midlands. The Trust is currently going through a huge development that will result in a centre of excellence for the patients and staff of North Staffordshire & surrounding counties. The Respiratory Medicine provides a comprehensive sleep service for the local population as well as being the tertiary referral centre for Wolverhampton, Shropshire, South Manchester & parts of Derbyshire & Cheshire. The service is predominantly outpatient and day-case with overnight sleep study activity occurring within the dedicated sleep department at Royal Stoke Hospital. UHNM runs a comprehensive diagnostic & treatment service including full polysomnography, multiple sleep latency test, maintenance of wakefulness testing & actigraphy as well as more limited home based sleep studies. We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic & reliable individual to join & lead the physiology team based at the Sleep & Ventilation Unit, Royal Stoke University Hospital, which extends to the County site. Applicants should ideally have a proven track record of managing a Sleep Physiology Service, experience as an independent practitioner across the range of routine & specialised sleep investigations and therapeutic interventions with theoretical & practical knowledge of a range of work procedures & practices and educated to MSc level.

The sleep physiology service lead manages the Sleep Physiology Service staff, including the planning, allocating and quality checking of work.

They provide expert advice to clinicians on diagnostic and treatment support for patients with obstructive sleep apnoea. They also support senior managers and contribute to the development of a quality and cost effective service.

He/she must be able to support the clinical service lead and advise staff on professional issues and must maintain a clinical input and keep up-to-date with professional issues by performing a range of clinical and scientific activities.

University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is one of the largest and most modern in the country. We serve around three million people and we’re highly regarded for our facilities, teaching and research. The Trust has around 1,450 inpatient beds across two sites in Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford. Our 11,000 strong workforce provide emergency treatment, planned operations and medical care from Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital in Stafford.

We are the specialist centre for major trauma for the North Midlands and North Wales. We have put together a wide range of development packages aimed at ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their potential. Our goal is to be a world-class centre of achievement, where patients receive the highest standards of care and the best people come to learn, work and research.
