**5-17yrs Children and young person’s sexual trauma counsellor**

**Hours**: 28hrs per week (over 4 days)

**Salary**: £30,995.64 - £36,613.72 (Pro rata and based on experience)

**Location**: Across Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire where required

**Term**:Fixed term until 31st March 2025

**Holidays**: 26 days plus statutory holidays per annum to be calculated pro-rata to hours worked

**Reports to**: Counselling Lead (5-17yrs)

**OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB**:
To work with children 5+ who have experienced sexual abuse and the often associated complex life experiences such as family breakdown and domestic violence which can lead to psychological difficulties including depression, anxiety, aggression and grief.

The aim of the role is to help the child express, explore and make sense of their difficult experiences to increase their understanding of trauma, decrease internal conflict and increase resiliency, coping and emotional literacy. This will entail working closely with the child’s parent/carers throughout the therapy, providing support to parents and carers and ensuring that relevant child protection and data collection procedures are followed.

This is an exciting new role with plenty of scope to build and deliver Axis Counselling children’s service.

**Duties and responsibilities**

Complete assessments including ongoing risk assessment and management, one to one therapy, case formulation and assessing the appropriateness of therapy for clients.

Provide therapy to clients in line with Axis guidelines

Planning and contracting for therapy practice by formulating clear, meaningful and appropriate therapeutic contracts, including therapeutic aims, objectives, boundaries and rules.

Develop and manage the therapy environment. Take responsibility for the development and safe management of the therapy environment, in line with Health & Safety standards. This includes selection and maintenance of play materials, risk assessment of the environment and taking appropriate steps to ensure continuing safety; ensuring privacy during sessions, preserving confidentiality in use and storage of therapeutic materials produced in sessions.

Contribute effectively to the work of Axis Counselling, demonstrate understanding of Axis Counselling functions and priorities. Consider the strengths and dilemmas of integrating a therapy service for 5+ children and young people and families within organisational contexts.

Maintain adequate electronic and appropriate paper records of clinical work and provide appropriate statistical returns as required

Assist in the evaluation of the service by contributing to data collection

Maintain effective time management to ensure clients are not kept waiting

Fulfil professional clinical supervision and line management requirements as specified in Axis Employee Handbook

Attend meetings and/or training as required.

Be aware of and comply with the AXIS policies, procedures and service standards

Participate in any other activities as directed by Senior Management

Take appropriate action to safeguard children, and ensure that all safeguarding concerns are dealt with in a consistent manner, in line with Axis’ policies and procedures.

**Personal development and support**

Attend monthly line management supervision

Attend monthly clinical supervision to promote and ensure ethical therapy practice

Identify and attend appropriate training opportunities

Maintain Continual Personal Development

**Other**

Work independently, set priorities, plan and manage own workload and organisational tasks efficiently

Daily use of IT, such as Salesforce, Teams, Outlook and other Microsoft Office products

Undertake any other duties that fall within the nature of the role, and as required by the Counselling Manager, CEO or Board of Trustees.

Work within the policies and procedures of Axis Counselling

Promote the ethos and values of Axis Counselling

Work flexibly as a member of the team and be responsive to changing needs

**Please note that the post holder must have a Full driving licence and a vehicle available for work.**
