Within this role, the BRNC Armourer will support both military and civilian staff employed to deliver training to cadets and officers during the first vital stages of their careers, training the next generation of Royal Navy Officers in preparation for their time in the Fleet.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
The Armourer (Small Arms Maintainer), works under the line management of the Ceremonial Training Officer (CTO), a Sub-department of the Executive team at BRNC. They are responsible to the CTO/PW1 for servicing and maintenance of all service weapons In Accordance With (IAW), relevant Army Equipment Support Regulations (AESP).

The Armourer ensures that all small arms weapons are fit for purpose and safe to fire and demonstrates this to the establishment security and training organisations. The Armourer communicates with all departments across the establishment and outlier operational units, all of whom require access to weapons. The Armourer is autonomous in decision-making about defect rectification and maintenance routines / requirements.

Deals with daily routine enquiries and ensures the safe custody of all outside unit and private weapons, ensuring a constant level of weapon availability to support the training programme (as a minimum).

The main responsibilities are set out below, but not limited to:
To inspect, repair and maintain weapons to the level three standard, and be jointly responsible for the security of all weapons and ancillary holdings and produce inspection and failure reports (in accordance with current issue of Armourers Policy and Procedures, AESP 1000-A-003-013).

To assist with the planned inspection and quality control programmes, and the production of AF G 351 (Small Arms Inspection reports) in accordance with the standards detailed in the equipment AESP, and the current issue of Armourers Policy and Procedures, AESP 1000-A-003-013.

The Armourer maintains the Small Arms Register (RN Form S3016) accurately and be the Joint Asset Management and Engineering Solutions (JAMES) Equipment Manager and Repair Manager for all Small Arms and Optical Sights held by the establishment.

In conjunction with the Explosive Responsible Officer (ERO / Personal Weapons1 (PW1), monitor, assess and adjust, as required, Small Arms and equipment holding in relation to the training requirement.

Quarantines weapons where required.

Ensures the safe custody of outside unit and private weapons and the maintenance of a separate S3016 custodial Small Arms Register.

Produces a weekly quality control report to the (ERO) & PW1, detailing the state of repair of all holdings including availability of weapons fit for purpose.

Assist with the accounting and stores procedures for weapon spare parts and maintain adequate levels for equipment held and their usage.

Provides advice to instructors and students on equipment maintenance.

Is the Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) and Workplace Supervisor (WPS) for all weapon and sighting systems in the unit.

- Liaises with INESA, CSE IPT and DSDA on SA matters.
- Deals with daily routine enquiries to the Armoury.
- Attention to detail.

**Technical**:

- S719A (RN Armourer), Radiation Protection Supervisors / Workplace Supervisor.
- S719B Small Arms Maintainer Course.
- JAMES Equipment Manager and Repair Manager.
- Glock (pistol) trained.
