**Job Description - Area Retail Co-Ordinators**
**Post**: 1 post - covering 3 shops in the West.
**Hours**: part-time, 20-21 hours a week - weekly shop shifts / days to be agreed - with occasional weekend and evening working
**Duration**: - 12 months fixed term contract. Posts will be reviewed prior to end with a possibility of becoming permanent.
**Salary**: £22,000 to £26,000 p.a. pro rata
**Additional Information**:28 days holidays per year, incl Bank Holidays (pro-rata), Mileage allowance, Workplace Pension Scheme: The People’s Pension
**Main Purpose of role**
The Area Retail Coordinators are key facilitators in the day to day operation of our shops. They will have the passion and drive to support our volunteer shop managers (VSM) and volunteers to continue to develop the DGCRC charity shops and build on their existing success. The retail team makes a significant contribution to the funding of the rescue centre, generating essential income to ensure our kennels can continue to provide a safe and loving environment for dogs who need our care. They also help promote the charity and the work that we do, giving DGCRC a community presence.
The West Area Retail co-ordinator will be responsible for three shops, overseeing the operation of our shops in Dalbeattie, Castle Douglas and Newton Stewart. They will work alongside and where necessary collaborate with the East Area Retail Co-ordinator who oversees the operation of our shops in Dumfries, Annan, and Thornhill.
They will have responsibility for maximising sales, including development of online sales, and ensuring that direct costs are kept to a minimum. They will be accountable for effective management of stock, administration, reporting and day to day operations. They will support and facilitate the volunteer teams to create a team spirit, excellent customer service, and shop productivity through encouragement, empowerment and leadership. They will lead on retail performance, reporting regularly to the Centre Manager and The Board. The focus is on developing and delivering a retail strategy by taking the best of what we do and building on this, working with the volunteer shop manager and their volunteer teams.
**Key responsibilities**
**Retail Management: Achieving sales and surplus**
- To meet annually agreed sales targets and ensure that direct costs are kept to a minimum.
- Explore new and innovative ways to increase sales.
- Maximise sales by developing and facilitating the delivery of an annual shop plan for each shop in their area, identifying opportunities for growth in the coming year, taking into account key competition and retail sector trends
- Recommend improvements for the operation of the charity shops
- Analyse sales data to manage performance and make informed management decisions in conjunction with the Board members
- Implement standard operational processes in shops to ensure consistency across the shops e.g., pricing of stock, financial and cash transactions and customer service.
- Ensure the shops have the appropriate stock at the right time and respond to identified or reported stock concerns. Be pro-active in the management and distribution of donated stock to achieve maximum return.
- Work collaboratively with your VSM to make effective and efficient use of the combined stock and donations from your area shops. Promote and facilitate stock rotation between the shops, using local knowledge on customer base and trends.
- Promote our shops in the local area using all available promotional opportunities i.e. social media, sales and wants pages, local press etc. Proactively recommend, design, and deliver new initiatives to help increase awareness of our shops and drive sales e.g., pop up shops, fashion shows, themed events etc.
- Oversee the development and delivery of a retail online operation.
- Ensure that all shops meet to criteria of being open Monday to Saturday 10-4pm
- Ensure that the shop and window presentation standards are met, including the rotation of goods, window displays and promotional activities.
- Ensure good standards of housekeeping, organisation and, cleanliness are maintained throughout all areas of the shop.
**Customer service**
- Ensure a consistent balance of a commercial approach which also meets local community needs and provides customers with a positive experience.
- Promote a positive customer service approach, acting as a role model and enabling VSM and volunteers to share their own good practice.
- In the event of complaints, to investigate and resolve these timely and efficiently, in line with DGCRC policies.
**People management**
- Act as 1stpoint of contact for VSM’s on staffing, stock, premises and any other issues
- Lead, empower and support the VSM and volunteer teams to develop and achieve sales and to be confident in overseeing the day to day running of each shop in your absence.
