**JOB PURPOSE**:
Term-time only role to supervise and manage a small team within our pre-school, providing high quality care in a stimulating educational environment to children within the care of the nursery in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, statutory framework and all nursery policies and procedures.

**PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES / OBJECTIVES**:
**Care and Education**
- Plan and organise the staff to provide high standards of care and education in the room considering the care and wellbeing of all children within the care or the nursery.
- Ensure all aspects of the Early Years Foundations Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework are met to a high standard and organise the team to achieve the same goal.
- Assisting the children with their development in all areas including all aspects of the current Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.
- Plan, organise and supervise appropriate play as the leader of the smaller team for the various aged children, taking into account the differing developmental levels of the children and differentiating the activities accordingly.
- Maintain up to date records of all children’s development in their keyworker group, ensure that all the planning and developmental records within the room (including that of team members is of a good standard, reflects the childrens’ current developmental level and their next steps and the planning reflects these next steps and takes account of childrens’ current interests.
- Maintain high standards of Health and Safety and follow all guidelines and procedures in place at the setting.
- Supervise all children to ensure their safety, including at mealtimes, during outdoor play and on outings.
- Attend training in key core areas such as first-aid and food hygiene.

**Equality and Inclusion**
- Value each child, their background and family and the contribution they have to make to the nursery setting.
- Help settle in children, liaising with parents/carers and assist with transitions for the child (i.e. between rooms, between settings and between the nursery and school). This may include liaising with other settings and providing written reports. Organise and manage each child’s keyworker.
- Welcome all parents/carers, showing respect, confidentiality and professional politeness, and consult and advise them when necessary. Assist other senior staff with show-rounds, providing specialist input and knowledge about the specific room and how it is run.
- Attend training in Equality and Diversity and keep this up to date.

**Safeguarding**
- Record all accidents or incidents at the nursery and communicate as soon as possible to the parent/carer. Ask about and record all explanations of injuries, which the child has when they enter the nursery.
- Administer basic first aid when required, and stay and comfort sick children until their parent/carer arrives.
- Administer prescription medication, as necessary, recording this on a Medicines Sheet and ensuring the parent/carer is informed and signs the form.
- Always discuss any concerns/suspicions regarding a child’s welfare or any disclosures from the children with the Nursery Safeguarding Officer enabling you to make a decision regarding further action/reporting, keeping the information confidential from others. Record this information and any action taken as per the Safeguarding Policy. Always take disclosures from children seriously, and tell the child that to help them you have to tell someone else.
- Attend first aid and safeguarding training and keep up to date with essential training.

**Teamworking**
- Work together with colleagues to ensure that workload is equally shared and well managed.
- Communicate effectively and in a professional manner with each other at all times to ensure childrens’ needs are met and messages are communicated to the correct person at the correct time.
- When issues arise within the room, look for solutions to these issues, discussing among the team as necessary and checking with the Manager before implementing new ideas.
- Assist with taking and collecting children from local schools.

**COMPETENCY (SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / QUALIFICATIONS)**:

- Ability to lead a team and communicate professionally with other team members, outside professionals including the local education specialists and parents/carers.
- Sound working knowledge of the current Early Years Foundation Stage, and how to plan for on-going development for all children including differentiating activities for differing abilities.
- Up to date training in first aid, food hygiene, equality and diversity, and safeguarding training.
- Excellent verbal communications skills both with young children and colleagues.
- Excellent written skills to keep records up to date and write reports for use by other childcare professionals.
- GCSE or equivalent pass in English and Mathematics.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience of working with young children within an educational setting.
