The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for a dedicated Category Specialist on to join our growing Sourcing team.

Category Specialist’s role is to ensure products required by our customers are sourced, negotiated, and set up to allow ease of procurement through our business.

The Category Specialist will be responsible for critical product categories - Refrigeration & Freezers, Respiratory, Point of Care and Ophthalmic to a value of c £2.5m spend annually.

This role will be a full-time, hybrid position based out of our MESM, Chorley site. You will have the opportunity to be part of the fast-paced Sourcing team. If you are looking for a role to provide procurement solutions to customer requirements

The team

Avantor’s Sourcing Team is part of a busy team of 12 supply chain professionals.

What we’re looking for
- Experience: 3 years + in a Category role
- Purchasing & Supply chain experience
- Excellent team player
- Excellent communication, negotiation & presentation skills
- Analytical and adaptable
- Excellent attention to detail and high-quality focus
- Strong stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and strong problem-solving skills.
- Collaboration Tool: Microsoft Word and Excel experience is required
- Proficient in ERP systems, Epicor highly advantageous
- CIPS qualification desirable but not essential

How you will thrive and create an impact
- You will provide procurement solutions to customer requirements, including recommendations on standard product items and alternative available products.
- You will expedite purchase orders; by request and based on achieving the best price/maintenance of appropriate stock levels
- You will provide procurement solutions to customer requirements; including recommendations on standard product items and alternative available products.
- You will expedite Purchase Orders; by request and based upon achieving best price/maintenance of appropriate stock levels
- You will be responsible for the set up and maintenance of product part profiles within company CRM
- You will manage and developing suppliers, to include the implementation of specific supplier agreements.
- You will have a commercial understanding and analysis of market movements and pricing, including the negotiation of prices.
- You will develop, implement and deliver specific product and supplier strategies for assigned categories.
- You will develop expertise within assigned categories and be the "go to" person for advice
