The post holder using their highly developed specialist communications knowledge, design and deliver innovative and effective online resources, courses, and programmes to support the delivery of Guy’s Cancer Academy’s strategic objectives, and those of the Cancer and Surgery Clinical Group
Guy’s Cancer Academy launched in February 2019 and provides education and training on every aspect of cancer care to both healthcare professionals and patients.
Our multidisciplinary team designs, develops and facilitates online training, masterclasses, conferences, preceptorship programmes, and university-accredited courses.
Guy’s Cancer Academy has rapidly established itself as a leader in delivering high-quality online cancer education and training within the NHS. This role is based within our Learning Laboratory and aims to significantly increase our capacity for delivering high-quality, innovative online education.
**Responsibilities**:
Online learning development and related activities
Maintain Guy’s Cancer Academy’s existing online learning resources and learning platform.
Edit learning content to ensure consistency, tone of voice, and compliance with the Learning Laboratory language style and brand guidelines.
Lead on curating, writing and editing content for all of Guy’s Cancer Academy’s channels, including on its website and social media platforms
Develop infographics, illustrations, interactive exercises, and animations to bring complex concepts to life and tell them in easy-to-understand terms
Act as an advocate of digital learning and champion best practice development including novel technologies, tools, and pedagogies.
Using your advanced sensory skills and precision, to create high-quality resources using tools like: H5P, Affinity Designer, Da Vinci resolve, Rise, Vyond.
Act as an advocate for the style guide and good communications practice, including plain English.
Communication
Use your enhanced communication and persuasion skills to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and clinicians to understand their learning objectives and work through complex, and often sensitive, concepts to understand key messages or learning points.
Work with patients, carers and families to share their experiences and tell their stories to enhance online learning resources.
Present complex, sensitive or contentious information, which is difficult to explain through appropriate and expert use of videos, animation, and other media. Use persuasion and tact to judge best options and facilitate decision making.
Lead interviews and small group workshops (usually between 5-20 people) to learn more about complex topics, which you unlikely to know much about, to gain stakeholder feedback.
Take a learner-centric perspective to consider and analyse what the target learner will be able to understand due to factors including: culture, language, physical and mental needs, and age.
Planning and strategy
Produce project plans that deliver agreed resources and provide regular progress updates and highlight risks or potential delays.
Oversee, train, and supervise freelancers who will support on specific projects.
Allocate work to team members, and review to maintain high-quality outputs
Support the recruitment of members of the Learning Laboratory by contributing to job description development, shortlisting and being on interview panels.
Contribute to various communities of practice across the Trust, which look at effective teaching, patient information and innovation in healthcare. Provide strategic and operational insight to support the development of the College of Healthcare digital learning function and lead on certain strands where required.
Plan/implement new ways of working to increase our operational efficiency.
Share resources, equipment and expertise with education teams and functions across the Trust and facilitate collaboration or efficiencies across divisions.
Research and development
Frequently attend conferences and training to maintain and develop knowledge in a range of areas, including: VR/AR platforms, and new asynchronous and synchronous platforms.
