**Job description**:
**Role**

To lead and manage the Business Advisor (BA) team, whose purpose in turn is:

- To advise TPR colleagues (all levels and directorates) on pension fund covenant matters.
- To advise on the broader commercial and pensions industry aspects of those matters.
- To interface with our regulated community and stakeholders on behalf of TPR

BAs operate across most of TPR’s directorates and across many areas: strategy, policy, regulatory codes of practice and guidance, scheme authorisation, supervision and enforcement.

TPR’s BAs are vital to our understanding of the financial strength of corporate sponsors of DB Pension Schemes and the level of risk that a corporate sponsor is able to support.

They also provide key input to the assessment and sustainability of Pension Superfunds, Asset backed funding structures, Collective DC arrangements and on the financial strength of Master Trusts.

A significant part of the role is to question and challenge external advisers / trustees / sponsoring employers on covenant strength, both at the individual scheme and policy / universe levels.

**Responsibilities**

Provide Leadership to TPR’s BAs’ and maintain and develop a high performing team of professional advisers.

Managing the performance of the team, including coaching and providing feedback on their progress and personal development.

Managing a Quality Assurance process to ensure that appropriate peer review takes place and advice is sampled and evaluated with feedback on improvements fed back to the team.

Manage workflow and ensure that expectations of internal and external clients are met.

Demonstrate leadership including identifying and implementing ways of working to deliver high quality services.

Be an active and collegiate member of the RPAA Directorate Management team and Policy Committee contributing to regulatory policy development.

Build a strong and effective relationship with colleagues in FLR and other directorates as well as external stakeholders and the investment community.

Be an active member of TPR’s Senior Leadership Team and be a visible role model of TPR’s behaviours.

Ensure that the BA team is diverse and operates inclusivity as a core value.

**Responsibilities**:
**Essential and desirable criteria**
- Experience of working as a covenant adviser or in banking restructuring or a similar role evaluating corporate financial strength or credit worthiness and working with Occupational Pension Schemes.
- Experience of M&A activity, deal structures and approaches, corporate refinancing and/or corporate restructuring and knowledge of business valuation approaches and techniques
- Forensic accounting and investigative techniques
- Understanding of TPR’s role, its powers and remit and relevant professional standards including clearance
- Knowledge of IFRS, financial analysis and insolvency and business recovery
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
