This post will be based at Dene Barton Community Hospital in Taunton, but the role will involve remote working, as well as some face-to-face work at clinics that are currently held in Taunton, Bridgwater & Wincanton. The post holder will join a multidisciplinary community pain management service, which is strongly biopsychosocial in orientation & which actively promotes & supports a self-management approach. They will work within the pain psychology service, currently consisting of a Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist, Assistant Psychologist & Trainee Clinical Psychologist.

They will be responsible for the provision of specialist psychological assessment & intervention services for adults with persistent pain, many of whom also have complex additional physical & mental health needs. Job Purpose: The post holder will be expected to work in a highly autonomous fashion, managing their own therapeutic caseload, as well as helping to co-facilitate the virtual introduction to the pain service and 3 group programmes. They will receive regular supervision from a Practitioner Psychologist and will also be invited to attend fortnightly team supervision sessions. The post holder will be involved in the provision of consultation, teaching & training of other healthcare professionals, as well as being expected to provide supervision & support for our Assistant Psychologist, where appropriate.

They will be encouraged to take an active role in service-related projects, including audits and evaluations & innovative research & development initiatives. They will also be supported in identifying their ongoing professional development needs, through attending an annual Career Conversation & relevant networking and training events. Duties and Responsibilities Communication and Key Working Relationships To develop good working relationships with colleagues, whilst offering consultation, contributing to case discussion & encouraging reflective practice. To establish a good rapport with clients, who may be distressed, anxious or angry.

To communicate with clients & their families/carers in a highly skilled, sensitive, empathic & non-judgemental manner. To offer 1-1 telephone appointments & video calls, as well as face-to-face appointments, using interpreters where required. To facilitate joint appointments where necessary, with staff from other disciplines. To participate in team meetings and Away Days.

To liaise with G.P.s/other Health Care Professionals, as required, to enhance communication between primary and secondary care services and across different teams. To effectively communicate psychological information with other professions & agencies. To be responsible for making appropriate inter-service referrals & allocating patients to assistant psychologists as appropriate. To receive monthly clinical supervision from a Clinical Psychologist.

To attend service psychology meetings, Trust practitioner psychology forums & clinical health psychology meetings, as agreed with Line Manager. Planning and Organisation In conjunction with Line Manager, plan & prioritise own workload, in accordance with roles and responsibilities outlined in Job Description & agreed in Job Plan. To organise time effectively, to achieve goals, meet deadlines & see clients in a timely manner. To contribute to the planning & organisation of the psychology service & its development & improvement.

Analytics To undertake routine data collection & analysis, for service evaluation & to improve service delivery. To use statistical programmes (e.g. SPSS) to analyse data for research purposes. Competence in internet/intranet use.

Responsibility for Patient / Client Care, Treatment & Therapy To conduct comprehensive psychological assessments to inform decision making & care planning, whilst managing risk. To formulate plans for psychological treatment & share these with the patient both verbally and in written form. To provide evidence-based psychological interventions for individuals, involving carers & family members where appropriate. To help co-facilitate & develop the 3 group programmes.

To provide advice, guidance & consultation on psychological aspects of patient care to colleagues, other service providers, patients & their partners/families where appropriate.
