**Job summary**:
Deputy Inspector Clyde and Faslane, is an exciting opportunity, responsible for regulating nuclear and radiological safety in the maintenance phase of the Naval Reactor Plant. You will be seeking assurance and through life nuclear safety compliance with Defence Regulations for nuclear plant and associated facilities at HMNB Clyde. To achieve these goals you will need to plan and conduct interventions that include safety compliance inspections, safety case assessment and activity permissioning, assurance reporting, the provision of advice and guidance and the taking of enforcement where appropriate.

The role offers the opportunity for flexible working and combines working from home, office work at Abbey Wood and regular visits to the Clyde Submarine Base or vice versa depending on chosen location. Where responsibilities interface, there is collaboration with other defence and civil, statutory regulators.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
**Your main responsibilities as the ICF-b**:
Support the intervention plan, to review progress and to report interventions, drawing conclusions and making recommendations for the DNSR annual assurance report.
- Seek assurance of compliance with the regulatory requirements set out in extant regulations, including inspection planning, implementation and reporting. (NCF 1.1,1.2, 1.4, 1.5)
- To grant or withhold of permission for activities in the NNPP which may present a nuclear or radiological hazard to the workforce, the public or the environment.
- To offer formal regulatory advice and guidance to the Authorisee (NCF 1.3, 2.1).
- The postponement or cessation of specified activity in support of the NNPP if, in your professional opinion, safety standards have been, or are likely to be, compromised to an unacceptable degree.
- To assess the demonstration of nuclear emergency arrangements.
- To provide relevant assurances to other regulators
- To co-operate with relevant staff from other MOD and statutory regulators. To work with other DNSR Inspectors, to achieve a coherent and comprehensive regulatory approach across the DNE.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on a wide range of nuclear projects at all CADMID cycle stages, directly influencing the safety of Commissioning, Operational and Decommissioning phases. The post will develop your competence in nuclear safety and safety regulation and across the range of core competences.

**People Management**
- DNSR-ICF-b is responsible for meeting statutory health & safety and employment legislation.
- Support regulatory Inspections and assessments connected with other areas of DNSR regulation as required (NCF 1.5).
- To lead or support interventions and inspections on behalf of DNSR Principal Inspector (ICF) (NCF 1.1, 1.5).
- Work will mainly be based in Abbey Wood, Bristol and HMB Clyde; there will be opportunities to visit other Defence Nuclear Sites. Hybrid and flexible ways of working are fully supported.

- To align with and enforce DSA regulatory policy and contribute to its continuous development.

**Meetings**
- Throughout the review and inspection cycles, you are encouraged to both attend and lead on various regulatory meetings.

**Emergency Task**
- Support DNSR in the event of a DNE emergency and during DNE emergency exercises. (NCF 3.1, 3.2, 3.3)

**Other Duties**
- Planning site week and securing intervention delegates
- Issuing, reviewing and hastening enforcement.
- Producing metrics for enforcement and assurance activities for quarterly and annual reports.
- Tasking and controlling the support contractor with respect to support activities.
- Editorial support to the production of the Monthly, Quarterly and DNSR Annual Reports.

- Focal point of contact between DNSR and the Clyde Authorisee.

**Person specification**:

- HNC / Degree level qualification or equivalent in a STEM field or equivalent experience.
- 12 months experience working within the Nuclear field or equivalent regulated industry.
