Witney Emergency Multi
- Disciplinary (WEMU) provides sub acute assessment and treatment for patients with a holistic focus on supporting them to remain at home, avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions. We deliver our service with an MDT consisting of a varied professional group who work as one team.
The HCA role is to work with a specialist Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) providing effective assessment, therapeutic patient care and discharge planning in a sub-acute medical setting. The role encompasses a mixture of general and specialist assessments under supervision by a registered practitioner within Trust policies, protocols and guidelines and in accordance with the unit philosophy.

As healthcare assistant working in WEMU you will be an integral part of the clinical team, contributing to the assessment and treatment plans for patients. You will be working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide hospital level care to patients on the unit and in their own homes.
You will be performing cannulation and phlebotomy, catheterisation and ECGs to help deliver treatment to patients at pace and documenting care on the patient record.
Compassion and professionalism are expected, but skills can be taught.
EMU is fast paced and responsive to patient need. The multi-disciplinary team (MDT) provide timely comprehensive and integrated assessments and interventions for adult patients with sub-acute urgent healthcare needs as an alternative to secondary care admission where appropriate.

The MDT comprises of Doctors, Nurses, Allied Healthcare Professions, Registered Nursing Associates, Healthcare Assistants and Administration support. The team assess the patient and formulate a management plan. The Health Care assistant will work as part of the team to deliver that plan, escalating any concerns to a registered member of the team.
The service currently operates 0900-2000hrs Monday to Friday and 1000-1600hrs weekends and Bank Holidays.
