- Grade 1- Staff Grade 4
- Post Type 1- Permanent
- Working Pattern 1- Full Time
- Role Type 1- Operational Delivery
- Salary Minimum 1- £31,429
- Job description 1-
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and skilled, technical advisor to join the Ambient Air Monitoring Team (AAMT).
The successful applicant would play a key role in the operation and maintenance of ambient air monitoring and data collection instrumentation across a national geographical area. They would be working as part of a high performing, close-knit team and would need to be able to thrive in such an environment.
A demonstrably strong technical background with a desire to learn on the job from colleagues is essential. This should be coupled with a positive work ethic, as independent travel throughout the UK is common and some level of autonomy will be expected in time.
National travel is required during most weeks, and commonly involves overnight stays. We have responsibility to respond within 48hrs to instrument breakdown, so some level of flexibility and commitment is required from post holders.
Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) is an important aspect of the work, and the ability to contribute to and manage the team’s procedures is integral to the role.
Liaising with other partners in the Agency is a regular activity, and attending meetings and training sessions may be required.
- The team 1- The post will be managed within the Environment Agency's Ambient Air Monitoring Team (AAMT), within National Monitoring.
The team works closely with area regulatory staff to assist them and provide supporting evidence in the regulatory or incident duties by conducting bespoke air monitoring studies. The AAMT have developed their instrument maintenance service; this is extended to other partners in the EA, including the National Contracts team and Major Air Quality Incidents team.
- Experience/skills required 1- A generally positive, enthusiastic, and technically minded individual would likely suit this role.
Whilst previous experience of operating or maintaining Mcert’s approved air monitoring instrumentation would be an advantage, it is not essential, as training will be provided for any entry level post holders.
Basic computer literacy and experience with spreadsheets would be helpful, but not vital.
Technical knowledge and experience of data communications would be an advantage to the role.
People who succeed in this post tend to enjoy the detail and technical aspects of equipment maintenance and fault finding. The sort of person that likes to repair things rather than buy a new. As experience/confidence allows, they will, in time, be asked to attend sites and work more autonomously.
The post holder will require a full UK valid driving licence and will be comfortable spending occasional nights away from home and travelling extensively throughout the UK.
- Contact and additional information 1- The base location for this role will be at an Environment Agency office. Extensive travel throughout the UK is a regular requirement of the role. which may occasionally require overnight stays for national meetings and events. However our hybrid working model means we work from home as well, based on business need and personal preferences when suitable.
Eligibility for lease cars is made based on the role. Check the lease car policy and consider its impact before applying.
