Trauma Informed Lead

Southall, United Kingdom West London NHS Trust Full time

Are you an experienced mental health specialist (e.g. social worker, nurse, psychologist or OT)? Would you like to develop your training and education skills with support from the Trust? Are you interested in training and developing your colleagues in a nationally recognised training package to provide better care for people with a diagnosis of “personality disorder”? Are you interested in being part of the move towards a trauma informed approach to supporting our service users?

An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen to lead the KUF Hub as part of the Wellbeing and Recovery College covering three London Boroughs - Hounslow, Hammersmith and Fulham and Ealing. The Knowledge and Understanding Framework (KUF) is a national training programme which is designed for anyone working with people with complex emotional needs associated with a diagnosis of ‘personality disorder’ (including professionals from the health, criminal justice and voluntary sectors).

This post is ideal for an experienced individual who is interested in expanding and developing their clinical career through education and workforce development. Lived experience of mental health services is preferred but not essential. There are two aspects to the role - leading and developing trauma informed training as part of the Wellbeing and Recovery College, and also leading and developing the localised KUF training for WLNT staff.

This role involves working alongside the Mental Health Integrated Network Teams (MINT) and being able to develop training that supports this services as well as other mental health services. You will lead on developing varied courses for people with complex needs and with emerging or an actual diagnosis of personality disorder.

You will contribute to effective and compassionate service development over the remaining years of the Long Term Plan for mental health, shaping this service according to population based needs.

Experience of working with individuals who have experienced trauma / clients with a diagnosis of personality disorder is essential as well as some experience of supporting the Wellbeing and Recovery College to deliver trauma informed courses in a co-produced, collaborative way. It would also be beneficial if you were KUF trained or had a good understanding of the KUF principles, although training will be provided.

Co-facilitated by trainers with lived experience and clinical/practitioner expertise, KUF training takes a co-produced, multiagency, trauma-informed approach to working with the complexities associated with these difficulties.

You will also be leading on developing interfaces with multiple services and stakeholders and developing partnership working to ensure the courses offered at the W&RC are both trauma informed and reflect the needs of the local population.

West London NHS Trust is one of the most diverse providers of mental health, community and social care in the UK.

Our 3,982 staff care for people in hospital and in the community, helping them to recover and go on to lead full and productive lives. We aim to be the best organisation of our kind in the country.

We provide care and treatment for more than 800,000 people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow, delivering services in the community (at home, in GP surgeries and care homes), hospital, specialist clinics and forensic (secure) units.

We’re rated good overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Together, we’re committed to promoting hope and wellbeing, working with patients, service users, carers, families and partners across the communities we serve.

We are keen to ensure that our workforce reflects the community it serves, particularly in terms of ethnicity, gender, disability, LGBTQ+ and experience of mental illness.

**Job Summary**:
To be responsible for the complex emotional needs (CEN) training as part of the Wellbeing & Recovery College, rolling out trauma informed training and leading on local KUF (Knowledge and Understanding Framework) training. Training and leadership will be for clients who experience difficulties with emotional instability and relationships, particularly those who frequently use unplanned and emergency care. This post will lead on developing training to support clients who remain under the care of their GP or who are being transferred back to primary care as well as supporting West London NHS Trust staff to complete the KUF training.
