**Job summary**:
As our Payroll & Finance Lead you are responsible for the direct leadership of the Payroll and Finance Operations team. You will report into the Head of Finance Operations. This role has 2 direct reports, Payroll Manager & Finance operations Manager.

You will manage the activities of Payroll & Finance Operations at Companies House. Overseeing approximately 26 staff delivering Banking, Credit Control, Accounts Payable and Payroll services at Companies House.

Companies House is currently going through an exciting period of change, and we are looking for a leader who strives to drive their teams forward. You are self-motivated and endeavour to bring the best out of your team. Building relationships within the Finance Directorate and across Companies House.

As someone who is receptive to change, unafraid to make decisions and takes an agile, proactive approach to your work. You will be identifying and implementing operational impacts from the CH transformation programme to ensure our systems and processes continue to have robust financial controls.

**Job description**:

- Advise and implement operational impacts of business decisions including legislative changes and digital initiatives for Payroll and Finance Operations to ensure delivery of the highest level of customer service
- Building Relationships and Liaising on Operational matters to internal/external stakeholders - including Customer Delivery Directorate, Finance Systems and Data (FS&D), IT, HR, Government banking and Auditors to identify and solve issues, and identify better ways of working
- Give early warning of operational issues foreseen and advise upwards to the Head of Finance Operations and Finance Executive.
- Working with the CI team to ensure Payroll & finance operations integrates seamlessly with the rest of Companies House to deliver Companies House's vision of a digital future and its overall strategy. You are the lead for finance operations on transformational projects.
- Working with HR systems, FS&D and IT to resolve system problems, identify areas requiring improvement and implementing upgrades and new systems.
- Maintain risk register and risk dashboards for Payroll & Finance Operations including sub team dashboards. Hold annual self-assessment of internal controls and attestation of risk control to Finance Directorate
- Ensure succession planning and role cover in the Payroll and Finance operations area
- Training and Development to ensure your team members have the skills and knowledge to provide the best service possible and enabling individuals to reach their full potential

**Person specification**:
**We are looking for**:
**Essential**
- Experience in payroll processes
- Sound knowledge of financial processes and systems
- Payroll or Finance Qualification (AAT/studying CCAB) or qualification by experience of Payroll and/or finance systems and processes (Minimum 5 years).
- Excellent communication and Leadership.

**Desirable**
- Effective relationship management within Finance, HR and wider business.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize workload and meet deadlines with conflicting demands.
- Risk management and internal controls knowledge and experience

**Technical skills**:

- Payroll and/or Finance Qualification e.g., CIPP/AAT/CCAB or qualified by experience in Payroll, Finance Operations, Finance systems or Management/Financial Accounting

**Experience**:

- Extensive experience in Payroll, finance systems and processes (5 years minimum is essential).
- Experience of using Payroll and Accountancy software, (iTrent, e5 is desirable).
- Strong people skills and confidence in dealing with people at all levels.
